In this Business Meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Whitehouse called on Committee Republicans to explain their opposition to Dawn Johnsen to be Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel (OLC), after remaining silent during Bush's abuse of that office.

He was one of the first to speak out openly and loudly against the Bush administration. AND he has the perfect name!

5. Correct, I don't want to "look forward"...
before we expose and clean up the Bush mess at the DOJ. I want it done publicly and where warranted, I want high profile prosecutions.

9. god, you can just hear and see how Whitehouse feels about the
total gutting of the OLC and the Dept. of Justice, now will they prosecute those who committed crimes against us, speaking of the Bush Administration. Senator Whitehouse your friends across the aisle have amnesia.

10. And, he has to hold his tongue about what he knows as an Intelligence Comm. member!
Imagine if he could let loose with what he actually knows!
It informs this discourse nonetheless, and is something we can read between his lines.

12. K&R, and thanks for posting. Whitehouse's use of the word rot in the OLC
is perfect here. I thought I would add a few links to Ms. Johnsen's views considering what the Republicans are objecting to.

Tipping the Scale July/August 2002
President Bush picks judges based on ideology--so why shouldn't senators reject them for it?

Also, this one is very interesting too:

Whitehouse references the USDOJ looking at Bush's OLC, now that will be something to read, but in the mean time, I had not read this from their website, so I thought I would share:

New! OPR and the Department’s Office of Inspector General completed a joint investigation into allegations of politicized hiring and personnel practices in the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. The complete text of the joint OPR/OIG report can be accessed here.
