2. I am an aspie...
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 05:56 PM by endersdragon34
...I don't want to be cured. Please stop trying to cure us and devote some more of that money to educating us so we can live in the world without be traumatized throughout school. Is that too much to ask? And yes I know hes promising more special education funding, but that does little good for those of us who aren't/shouldn't be in special education. Open up more schools and more programs for us. Make laws encouraging states to do this. There is maybe 10 such schools, and 100 such programs (granted its going up) in all of America, and with the war thats sure to happen on open enrollment and homeschooling, we need more of these programs to open up in decent sized cities (I am from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, I believe we have 2 programs within a school for low functioning kids and 1 coordinator for asperger's student in 1 school, thats not near enough when theres 30 or more schools in the area, and fyi this is more then any city in the area other then Iowa City and Waterloo, both of which have huge sped populations). Maybe I am wrong, but when so many students are getting traumatized and not getting educated in schools now, I want more programs where we can be treated and educated right...

3. My son is an Aspie too
I'm not looking for a "cure" but research would be great. I wouldn't wish the heartache he's gone through on anyone and if we can have some research as to how to help these kids learn to deal with life I sure wouldn't say no.

4. Even if it means genocide?
Even if it means that kids like your son are aborted 90+% of the time (if that happened to a recognized race, that would be genocide, trust me I have read the genocide convention treaty) like happens with Down's kids? When they find the cause, prenatal tests are too far away.

5. FYI
We know how to help these kids have good lives. Check out schools like Spectrum Charter Academy or The Laurel School, and tell me your child wouldn't thrive there. We need to open up more schools like these across the country. Thats not what Obama is into researching though, hes researching into the causes, not how to help these kids. Every year we pay millions (maybe billions) into discovering the causes... wouldn't that money be better spent opening up more schools like those all across America?

6. Yes, we need more funding in schools and strategies for success.
We also, need to refund community help for workplace successes and end any discriminatory practices, especially in the area of health insurance.

8. I agree. There need to be special programs set up with the
QUALIFIED TEACHERS to deal with these needs. Now we regular ed teachers are expected to try to deal with all of the different LD's & ISP's & we are just not trained to handle this. It is not fair to the students or the teachers. I believe this is one of the main reasons we have seen our education system plummet in comparison to other nations.
