4. I don't understand the ratings thing

but it seems to me people who have similar interests could manage to keep together. They took away the bulletin feature for some reason. And they put all this silly hearts and markers to show what you favorited, like something teenagers would want.

I think a corollary to Godwin's Law needs to be coined wherein the first whiner to cry censorship when a private website does something they don't like gets theirself an immediate and irrevocable suspension of all internet services except for a self-hosted e-mail account subscribed to every spam operation in the world. And they have to administer their own damn mail server.

is far more important then a company.

Here is the problem. Currently on TV 5 companies control everything you see. So they have a sudo power to create what people think.

On the internet you tube, google, MS, and a few others could potentially control what you see.

So the question is not does a private company have the right to censor content on their site, the question is if they choose to censor, then would not the people have the right to take that option away from them. Quite simply, if a company can control information, then they should be under constraint by the people.

Unless you want a few CEO's to try and rule the world. Which of coarse always fails, but where to we draw the battle lines and how soon do we choose to engage in the battle.

The private sector could theoretically fix this itself, if a company tried to change cultural norms. Then another company could pop up and say they are not doing that. Here is the catch, if a group has a lock on information, then that group would never let people know about the new company. So again, it becomes in the interest of people to actively stop companies from censoring content. You could argue trust like litigation against agreed norms being set by many companies with same ideology.

A open source competitor, with algorithms that are open for review would stop this. And if it was deemed necessary, government could even fund the project in the interest of free flow of information. Same reason government protects libraries, or use to when they were key source of information. In lieu of government funding, private institutions could handle parts of the projects if they agreed to the content selection protection.

PS Ask dot com is a search engine that was started by same people that started fox news, you can see the slant in that engine easily. And the temptation to slant to further a persons personal thoughts is almost more then can be allowed to be in the hands of a few executives. The assumption that they will do what is best for all, does not have a good track record.

6. Although yt remains king, there are TONS of other video sites

out there. Eventually, their draconian rules will lead to a major rise of alternatives. Hey, remember the browser wars? There was a time when it looked like IE would never have any rivals again. Now we have firefox, opera, and chrome (and others). I don't trust google chrome, but it's great to have alternatives. There are a ton of new video sites.

this person gets paid for his service on YT...He recognizes others who make vids - that they will be left out...creating this video could only hurt him and not help him...

YT started out as a forum where it could be open...other services don't offer the same audience and you know it...this country was founded by people who didn't like the way it was and changed it, they didn't go somewhere else, so telling people to go somewhere else is insane...people all over the world consider america the free world and with democracy in hand, what YT is doing is wrong point blank

There are people who will always bitch about this or that, and how horrible Youtube is to censor videos.

Nobody will prevent you from hosting your video on your own Web site, nor will they prevent you from paying the bandwidth for it either, because as far as we know, Google is still not making a buck out of Youtube.

17. The power is never from complete censorship

it is keeping certain content up front where everyone sees it, and putting the stuff you don't want seen on the top shelf in the back of the room.

There is always a 10% that will know whats going on. True propaganda realizes this and uses that 10% to test for leaks, and tolerances of systems. If you try and get to 100% info control, you get back lash, and build up. If you allow 10% you can economically freeze out that percentage, or alice them by directing to false info.

This allows for control that seems unseen. It is subtle, and goes unchallenged. Other methods are used, point the 90% at the 10% with tin foil hat comments. And bubblies the communities so the 10% does not leak over into general population.

This is where the analogy of virus come in, and quarantines and jail for containing ideas that are not approved of.

Lots of stuff, it doesn't even have to be that organized, one power player can put a TV add up letting others know the ideology they like or don't like, others usually fall in line if they have consigned there power to the controllers of the advertisement through respect.
