Also check out these videos/articles you may have missed (as well as my polite rant at the end):

1. I heard about that on the radio yesterday. I hope it really works.

2. Not quite a cure but not bad
The HIV gene sequences will still be written in the host's DNA and he will carry it with him for life. And the method they used is just an attempt to work with blocking the CCR-5 receptor. A drug that blocks the CCR-5 receptor will probably work just as well as a transplant.

All the same, its good news. But I'm not super excited. This is just a step in the right direction, not a cure.

7. Even if it's not a cure in the full sense of the word, as in killing the HIV virus outright, maybe
it can help develop a drug that can reduce AIDS to a chronic condition.

Something that keeps the viral loads at a low enough level so that the patient's immune system can be at a decent enough level to fight off other diseases.

8. Thank God Obama won.
No, no, I won't go so far as to pretend this happened because of him.

But let's just go back to the VP debates when Palin tried scoring points on both sides by addressing global warming while also refusing to acknowledge its causes.

Honestly, we're facing a whole slew of problems in this country and in this world. And hardly any of those problems couldn't be made a little bit better just by embracing science, by acknowledging fact.

How are we going to keep the planet habitable? How are we going to make the leap to better energy? How are we going to get wealthy or stay healthy if we have disdain for science?

Just saying: the future looks so much brighter when we're lining up leaders who are smart, and who listen to smart people in a wide range of fields. Leaders who don't presume to second-guess the scientific community just to score points with some voting block. Leaders who see knowledge as a tool to use against our problems, instead of looking at knowledge as a dangerous thing that must be dirtied up because it threatens the status quo.

I often think back to that Rage Against The Machine music video from 2000, the one that showed clips of the two main presidential candidates that year both saying the same things about a few different issues, the one that basically implied there's no appreciable difference between Gore and Bush. Makes me wonder who are these people out there who honestly can't tell the difference?

He's absolutely right. If McCain had been elected Republican mouthpieces nationwide would be giving him credit for it.

10. M.R.S.A. ( methicillan resistant staphylococcal aurea ) is killing more Americans' than A.I.D.S.
If you haven't heard of it, you will soon, hospitals and the insurance profit machines take better care of their bottom line than a bottom with a stage V decubitus ! http://www.wisecountyissues.com ( and it's perfectly acceptable standards of care in Tennessee and Virginia...

11. I hope that this does bring about a cure.
Now, they need to find cures for some of the diseases that have been around a lot longer.
