4. I Noticed That a Lot of Those Pictures Were Taken in San Francisco

It's the city where I live. It's a city that claims to be politically active, and claims to be passionate about its politics. It's a city that claims to have suffered for the past eight years while its views (and its residents) have alternated between marginalized and outright ignored by the Bush White House and America at large.

Yet less than 50% of the registered voters in this city cared to actually cast a ballot yesterday. If everyone in San Francisco had voted, Prop 8 (the gay marriage ban) would have still passed but there would have been 200,000 more "No" votes. If every registered voter in San Francisco had voted then Obama would have taken California by an even a larger margin. If everyone had voted it would mean this city WAS a passionate, politically active, diverse landscape that speaks with one voice, just like it claims to be.

Sorry, I don't mean to thread crap. That was a beautiful video. It's just that I see those shots of San Francisco and imagine that 1 in every 2 people shouldn't be in the crowd, because 1 in every 2 people in that crowd didn't care enough about the issues to go down to their polling place and cast a ballot. It makes me feel like the place I call home is a lie. I suppose that would be a lot more frustrating, except that yesterday I learned that the rest of America isn't a lie...
