Notorious Quebec comedy duo talks politics in prank call to Sarah Palin

MONTREAL — A Quebec comedy duo notorious for prank calls to celebrities and heads of state has reached Sarah Palin, convincing the Republican vice-presidential nominee she was speaking with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

In the interview, which lasts about six minutes, Palin and the pranksters discuss politics, pundits, and the dangers of hunting with current vice-president Dick Cheney.

The Masked Avengers, who have a regular show on Montreal radio station CKOI, intend to air the full interview on the eve of the U.S. elections.

The well-known duo of Sebastien Trudel and Marc-Antoine Audette have also tricked Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and French president Jacques Chirac.

The call to Chirac was rated by the BBC as one of the top 30 best moments in radio history of all time.

The McCain campaign later released a statement about the phone call.

"Governor Palin was mildly amused to learn that she had joined the ranks of heads of state, including President Sarkozy, and other celebrities in being targeted by these pranksters. C'est la vie."

The fact that they had to worry about the lawsuit, when in fact they weren't really going to be sued, was the Queen saying "psych!".

their accent was nothing like a native French speaker, at least not one from France. There were a million little clues but the Anointed One Who Can See the Moon from Her House (she's ready to be an astronaut, too) didn't get it. Whadda frickin' idjit. And at least a third of America is willing to throw her the keys to the football? They're obviously suckin' from the algae-filled shallow end of the gene pool, too. When Raygun turned out the halfway houses and mental wards, then forbade birth-control, this is the result.

I had a girlfriend from Montreal and noticed how different her accent was from a French accent. I was amazed.

many moons ago I was trained as a French translator, along with being a Spanish translator. Nuances in accents still fascinate me. I used to make pin-money in the Army a long-long time ago guessing where guys came from, even when they tried to disguise their accents. It's a "musical-ear" thing, I guess. No matter how folks try to disguise regional accents, I can still pin them to their birth region and where they now live. I can still do the same thing in Spanish, although I don't use Spanish daily, but I keep up with it. French, not so much any more, but I still recognize differences. Cajun French still throws me and I have a hard time keeping up unless I'm down there a while. It may seem odd, but I read a lot more languages than I actually speak.

and we've sort-of giggled at one another's accents. The trilled "r" is interesting, but since Spanish is a natural second language to me, the transition is easy to make and I find myself doing it after a few minutes. Funny how one adapts readily when one has a mind to. I melded easily into life in Europe and enjoyed myself there when others seemed to have trouble adapting. It's all a matter of attitude, I suppose.

Now if you want to hear something pretty, go for Portuguese. I'm lately hooked on Mariza and fado music. I read Portuguese easily, but often I'm lost in conversation.

The accent was all wrong, and the voice was wrong (Sarkozy's is rougher and deeper). She should've known, but it just proves, yet again, that she's in over her head.

I need a drink cuz I think I ALMOST found my self feeling sorry for her and had to pause it for a couple secs with my own feeling of embarrassment. ALMOST found myself feeling sorry. ALMOST!!! I need a drink OMG.

I almost felt sorry for her the second time I listened to it. lol .. but only the Prideful fall that hard. That's the point. If it was someone who was humble, it would have very little impact. It was her pomposity that put her in the position to begin with (taking a phone call because she wanted to believe she is that important).
