Several American experts say the next U.S. president will have to confront the need to do something about Iran's nuclear enrichment program. They say efforts over the last five years to negotiate with Tehran have been ineffective, with Iran now closer to acquiring the technology to make an atomic bomb.

1. Isn't it natural for Iran to look for ways to protect itself?

If a country feels threatened it's more likely to act aggressively. Given the powers that are against Iran, it's clearly in Iran's interest to (at least try to) gain nuclear weapons and thus become untouchable. The more we threaten Iran, the more aggressive she'll become. Isn't that natural?

3. Iran can be aggressive only if it is sure it holds trumps in the game

I think that if a country is threatened and it knows it holds the weaker cards, the natural move will be to give up (to obey the stronger ones). But if it feels it can protect itself (or if it knows who will protect it), that country would become more aggressive.
