OK, McCain's chances are slim and none, and slim is leaving fast. That is true whether or not Ms. Todd's story is a hoax.

Let's just suppose it is a hoax (and it is) and that McCain still has a fighting chance (which he doesn't). Is there anything to even suggent that Rick Davis left a tape for Ms. Todd in a phone booth that gave her this assignment and then self-destructed? This lady is a loose cannon, and probably needs professional help in dealing with some unresolved issues. Why should that drag down McCain?

I made up my mind some time ago to vote for Obama. The reasoning was that no Republican, not even a reputed maverick, could have any credibility pledging to clean up Bush's mess and it was therefore important that Bush be succeeded by a Democrat. Nothing that happened yesterday concerning Ashley Tood or even the heartless McCain surrogate who attacked Obama for going to visit his grandmother could possibly have any influence on the matter.

Even if my mind weren't made up, I'd make it up on issues and the acts of a stray sicko who was clearly acting on her own.

TPM is now reporting:

John Verrilli, the news director for KDKA in Pittsburgh, told TPM Election Central that McCain's Pennsylvania campaign communications director gave one of his reporters a detailed version of the attack that included a claim that the alleged attacker said, "You're with the McCain campaign? I'm going to teach you a lesson."

Verrilli also told TPM that the McCain spokesperson had claimed that the "B" stood for Barack.
