5. they weren't fooled. They lied either out of cowardice, expedience, or complicity
In Edwards apology, he made it clear it was expedience--he thought it would be a political plus in the future. It probably is with the corporate types who expect blind obedience on their core issues regardless of the facts or lives involved.
