Totally awesome. We went to see Obama at his campaign stop in KC today. We were on a backroad next to Liberty Memorial and was stopped by a cop so Obama's motorcade could pass. I flipped on the camcorder and hit record as fast as possible and got 10 seconds or so of him. We screamed "OBAMA!" and he waved to us. Anyway, he's in the rear passenger seat of the suv. Pretty cool in our book. That's the closest we'll ever be from him. 8 feet.

12. My husband saw President Clinton

like that once in Palm Beach County. I believe that when they are on local streets they can take different routes so they don't bother stopping traffic too much ahead of time like they do on interstate overpasses. People don't really know the route in advance, so the police just come in and pull everyone over just before the motorcade arrives. They just let you get out of your car and watch as the motorcade passes. When Clinton was leaving I was watching TV as his plane was taking off, so I went outside and watched AF1 as it headed down the coast to Miami. It flew much lower than commercial planes and was easily visible from miles away.

Edit: Palm Beach County has a lot of experience dealing with presidents, what with the Kennedy Compound, and also, President Ford used to frequently visit a hotel (no longer there) on the beach in Lantana/Manalapan. My sister's mother-in-law worked there as head of housekeeping and said Ford was a nasty slob.
