11. Probably 80000 of them were Republicans who are now
throwing up their hands.

The most common words in GOP-land right about now are:

"What the hell was he thinking?"

story that they love to push (so that their MK dept can sell tens of millions of dollars' worth of ads). As far as his personal politics, I suspect Wolf has a bit of a man-crush on Obama, actually.

Since it has been rumored that Pawlenty was "it", I agree with one of the e-mails - this was a last-minute appointment and it was made inn desperation!

most people are talking because it's a horrendous foolish move! Wow, what a bonehead play. I'll give him credit for an interesting desparation move, but if he thinks women are so stupid they'll just go out and vote for any woman, McCain has some serious problems.

What's with the one email saying she has the same experience as Obama? 8 years in the Illinois state state senate and 4 years in the U.S. senate is a lot more than being Mayor of a small town and then having a year and a half as governor of a sparsely populated state.

41. Palin will do for McCain...
..what Ferarro did for Mondale. In 1984 women voters did not cast their votes based on gender, so what makes McCain think they will do so this time? Picking an unknown quantity with limited experience is a huge risk that is almost sure to backfire.

McCain's desperate. He wanted to get Obama/Biden & the whole dem convention out of the limelight. He succeeded, but this is one of those cases where you should be careful what you wish for.

Not even remotely. Also, the two individuals are not EVEN REMOTELY on the same level in terms of their personal achievements. Who do I want as the vice president, the person with a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Idaho or the editor of the Harvard FUCKING Law Review? Tough call.

No shit, guys. I wouldn't be surprised to see them change their minds about this.

36. The bluebirds and rainbows are fighting with the devil and his pitchforks.
My optimist (bluebirds and rainbows) side says, "Surely people can't be so stupid they can't see through a desperate move"

My pessimist (devils and pitchforks) side says, "There are still plenty of reeeeaaaalllly stupid people in this country"

sigh

I guess the least I can do is take away the weapons so neither side ends up doing mortal damage to the other

and then hope for the best....

PS...Jack Cafferty is THE MAN!!!!! Go Jack! :)

37. "This could be ballgame over." -- Jack Cafferty
I don't always agree with Cafferty on issues but I totally agree with him on that statement. If the American people are willing to put an inexperienced, fundamentalist EEEvangelical wacko like Palin a heartbeat away from the presidency of the oldest person ever to run for the office then the American people are not only in for four more years (God forbid) they could very well be in for much worse.

Palin is an inexperienced far-right wing EEEvangelical fundamentalist wacko, and if America wants someone like her a heartbeat away from the presidency then America had better be prepared to accept the consequences.

53. Palin should fire up all Democrats....and NOT because it is impossible she can be Pres....
Think of it! Palin as President. McCain squeaks by and wins the presidency. Months or years later McCain dies or is incompacitated. This should scare the bejesus out of us.

Instead of gloating that she is such a bad pick, we should be scared. Really scared. Obama and McCain are basically tied at this point. I would hope that Obama would get a bump from our convention, but so would McCain presumably.

It is hard to fathom someone like Palin actually sitting as president. Then again, it was hard to fathom our present dumbass president getting to be president too.... Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse than Bush....O.M.G.....

Let's not be complacent. McCain is scary enough. It is not enough to post on DU and be "with it". We have to get off our duffs and go to our Democratic Headquarters and volunteer for phone banking, organizing, etc. This is what will decide this election. Let's do it!

43. thanks for posting that!
Let's hope their polls are more accurate than their analysis of them. Specifically:

"What's interesting, however, is that while there is a gender gap in these numbers, it's not the one many observers were anticipating. Rather, along a variety of metrics, men like the Palin choice better than women....

Why does this gap exist? Don't know, but it may simply be a matter of ideology. Men are generally a bit more conservative than women, and opinions of Palin are very strongly determined by ideology."

Wrong, boys. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. You're thinking with your wrong heads...again. Try looking at her qualifications. All none of them.

51. The dodo head who claims that Palin & Obama have the same experience
is missing a very, very important point. By chosing her, McCain just conceded that experience doesn't matter, so Obama's inexperience should no longer be a campaign issue. The fact that both tickets have someone with "inexperience" removes this weapon from the repig arsenal. Even worse for them is McCain's age. He and Obama were the ones chosen by the electorate, not Biden or Palin. Do voters want to vote for her, someone who did not demonstrate her abilities as Obama did?

Not only that, with five kids, I think she fucks too much. :P
