3. Establishment Clause

What would be so wrong for us as a nation to decide like other
nations that marriage is a religious ceremony subject to
theological constructs, but not one recognized by the state,
while providing for a civil contract provided by the state
available to all? Oddly enough there are countries in this
world (Mexico comes to mind) that do not recognize religious
marriage ceremonies. You are welcome to have one, but to be
recognized by the state, the union must be by way of a
separate civil ceremony. This would preserve for us both the
establishment clause and our  nation’s self respect.
