1. Ah - the perfect Econ is back
with more readings from the bible of "rational intelligence should guide your life". It would be great if he didn't get so bloody boring so fast. There must be a more entertaining (or more credible)way of insulting the faithfuls of all creeds. This endless tirade of rationality only makes me miss another essay by Mark Morford.

3. if the path to boring was too quick for you
perhaps it's because you fail to understand his point--and that's yours to own, not his.

10. Well - isn't his main points that a) religion is mostly stupid in the way
its being practiced and b)we should all be more rational in the way we understand each other and the world?

We can all agree on a) but b) is not really something that he makes a strong case for. In fact I find his use of rational intelligence quite tainted by vanity.

11. actually, it's more along the lines of
keep it to yourselves and quit trying to bleed out on people who are not interested.

I find that he, like many, many adults in this present day 'murka' are tired of having someone's flavor of religion constantly flown in their faces every where they look.

What he gets, which most 'murkins' don't get, is that his country of origin's history went through centuries of religious persecution--and the persecuting was being done by those who basically believed in the same person. Those who prefer pagentry burned those who prefered no intervention from a middle-man. For centuries. 'Murkin' xtians whine and cry all day long about being so persecuted, but there is nothing and no one dragging them out of their homes and tying them to a stake and a bunch of kindling and setting them on fire. To them, their persecution is that they can't control the laws to the point where only their point of view is legitimized.

His eloquence is not vanity. Like I said, that it is over your head is yours to own, not his or anyone else's.

2. While I agree with Pat
(being one of those bible belt closet atheists), do not be surprised if this is moved. Political video really isn't the proper spot.

7. Religion is simply superstition gone wild. The basic message is lost peace and kindness.

8. i personally believed
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 01:31 PM by iamthebandfanman
that the bible is infact the work of the devil.
ironically, the bible itself warns of false profits and those who claim to speak for God ... and even proclaims satan the prince of the earth(ruler)

9. touchdown!
This guy is spot on. Then again, it is not that hard to point out logical fallacies in scripture or Judeo-Christian mythology.

I find the Norse mythology to be much more entertaining with more interesting deities and a more interesting creation myth.

14. I like what he had to say
It is actually the way I mostly think about the world. My dad became an atheist after he disregarded the Mormon Church as the end all and be all of religion. His father had told him that to question was the first step to apostasy. My mom wouldn't join the church after they were married. He came to the conclusion that if one part was fantasy that the rest must be also. As a little child I went to both Methodist Sunday school and to the Mormon Sunday school. Funny to think that for a time it, religion was important enough to my dad, that he took us to church. Peculiar as it was, I was privy to the concept as I grew older that there might not be a God at all. God is dead. One of the phrases of the 60's... must have been a cultural phenomenon of the times. It's important to question authority. We should all be taught to do it.
