2. Dunno, dunno, so much to say about this....
1) I think Cenk doesn't do a 100% well on here, he misses a lot of the potential of making that fool look like the one he is... there are so many mashup videos around which show mccain flip-flopping like crazy and being full of it, with dates and occasions, for plenty examples to expose that fool's "maverick" bullshit. And how the hell is McCain "man of the people"??
Plus, to "sheeple listeners" Cenk really might have come across as rude, the fool could even mention this...
All in all, I think he failed to pin this fool down on his bullshit 100%, for "sheeple listeners" to see. For us, it was great though...

2) What's up with the voice?? Like lieberman, I can't believe that's the guy's real, natural voice. Sounds like he is in some pain or what... hey do you REALLY think you sound smarter, more thoughtful that way?!

3) "Hillary was treated badly by Obama"... well ok, words fail me here.

4) Policies don't matter at all, Hillary must be VP or he votes McCain, this is the only important point... may we call this tremendously immature ( among other things ) ??

5) ...but he IS, he IS a Democrat!

6) Fuck that guy!!!

#1. Well, it's a limited amount of time. I could see how some people think Cenk was rude, but he doesn't suffer fools gladly which is something I love. IMO, he's a nice middle ground between a stoic "neutral" interviewer (very unsatisfying in this context, not to mention boring) and a belligerent jerk (over the top, hard to have a good discussion).

If anything, Cenk held back when that a-hole tried personal attacks. Also, he brought up the best arguments against the "maverick" label with the key flip-flops, particularly torture which is left out of the discussion far too often. He also pressed him HARD on balancing the budget and tax cuts.

Also, "probably for good reason" was my favorite line in response the the guest saying he hasn't been on the air in a long time.

EDIT: Second best line was "HELL YEAH I'm gonna vote for Barack Obama"!

I don't know with my concern about the "sheeple listeners", guess I should have just enjoyed the clobbering. And I personally didn't think Cenk was rude at all.

It's just that I remembered there was a mashup video around here a while ago where it said mccain voted over 90% party line over the years... if true and backed up, something like that would have shut the fool up for good!

And those were really good lines, I agree! My favorite though was when alexander gets angry when accused of "calling himself a Democrat", tries to defend himself and Cenk goes like "all that means squat if you vote mccain". Cenk wasn't even startled, just shut him up, I liked that one!

EDIT : some corrections

4. Incomparable!
This is the kind of cogent and disciplined battle our side should have more of. Personally, I feel Cenk, under the conditions of a live interview, was superlative! This ASSHOLE-FUCKTARD Cenk was dealing with tried to filibuster and strong-arm the discussion as well as taking personal shots and through it all Cenk stayed on point and held up a mirror to this FUCKING-COCKSUCKER-SHITHEAD-LIAR. The proof of victory was the desperate attempt of that WEASEL-ASSED-BITCH-WINGNUT to slam the Turks. Fuck that guy! And what a great way to start my day! Cenk bloodied that FUCKING -LIAR-SHILL-BITCH.

Bravo!

7. Wow, this was not good.
Does Cenk have ppl on his show to discuss their books often, because then it would make sense as to why he didn't at least read some of this guy's book, regardless of how repulsive it may have been. You need to try to look at different points of view in order to make sound arguments, right? Cenk is awesome, don't get me wrong, but this smelled like a lost battle, which pisses me off, b/c this guy was deserved a serious pummeling. I'm not letting Cenk off for this, he made an argument based soley on the title the book, which for all Cenk knew (from not reading it) could have been satirical. I love you Cenk, but you need to do better next time.

10. Cenk interviewed about 1,000 people last year, a good percentage of which were authors
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 09:56 AM by ihavenobias
Imagine being a very busy person who has to read (newspapers, magazines and blogs) constantly for your job as a talk show host and on top of that imagine trying to read literally hundreds of books.

Obviously you're going to be selective. Any talk show host that pretends to read all of the books of his/her guests either doesn't have very many guests or they're lying. Then again I suppose they could be a record setting speed reading champion.

;)

Also, at 14:30 the guest makes the stupidest comment and Cenk has the perfect response.

32. No. That was a freeform debate, pure and simple.
It didn't require Cenk read the xxxxxxx'x book, since the entirety of the debate was re. the wording on the book's cover. I see nothing wrong with debate on an even ground about a specific point. I haven't read the book either, and yet, based on what went down in the interview, I'm not motivated to buy it.

In these regards it's caveat emptor. I wouldn't go on O'Reilly's show, for example, without being aware of O'Reilly's particular format. If I wrote a book titled "Obama, the new messiah" and were invited to an on-air interview with O'Reilly, I wouldn't complain if O'Reilly hadn't actually read and studied my book! No no, I'd assume he hadn't! If I walk onto O'Reilly's home ground to discuss things with O'Reilly, then free form is the only way to go.

14. He might well consider himself a Democrat
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 11:01 AM by LiberalLovinLug
You guys have an odd system down there. Folks HAVE to declare their party preference (or independent) BEFORE they can register. Do I have that correct? Seems like that is a system that begs to be corrupted. ( I thought I heard about RNC voter registration drives last election where they got caught throwing away anyones application that wrote on it they were registered as Democrats) Anyways, it also seems like in America, because of this, you have generations of Republicans and Democrats, and it has become just a meaningless but fiercely guarded label, and that it is only worn because your Great Grandfather etc.. had the same designation.

That would explain what I think is dangerous about that system. That it seems you will always have an equal split, just varying slightly by independents each election (and Diebold, but that's another discussion) That millions upon millions of "Republicans" will vote for McCain just because "my daddy was a Republican and his daddy before him..." It's almost like, "well we're a Republican family, there's not much I can do about it, I'm compelled to vote for whatever Republican moron is running"

For instance why doesn't this disingenuous idiot just say he is an Independent? That seems to describe his position on 'wait and see' better than saying he is a Democrat. Its all very confusing from up here.

21. I am a progressive Democrat in Alabama.
It is not the easiest thing to be. My family pretty much always votes against the grain here. I would also be lying if I said I have never felt actual fear simply because of what I believe and how I vote.

But, let me answer your actual question. We do not have to declare our party. When we register to vote there is an option on the form where you can declare your party affiliation. It is not required and it does not affect anything dealing with your registration or voting in any way. Regardless of your party affiliation we have open primaries in this state. When you vote in a primary you are asked which ballot you want. When I registered to vote in this state I considered leaving my party affiliation off due to the 2000 election and the election issues I was concerned about. I decided it would be a cave-in for me to not proudly claim my party affiliation when given the opportunity. I do not feel that my vote has been altered or that I have had any special treatment in response. We have a stronger Democratic party in Alabama then it gets credit for.

Cenk is still my hero. I think he handled this clown the best he could given the time constraints. I do believe Cenk could have gone all day with this fool.

16. Clinton and Obama's policies are so similiar...How could this guy vote McCain?
He says he's a blue collar democrat, but he sounds like a Hillaryite. Personality cults are dangerous no matter who's name is being shouted. I'm with Cenk 100% on this, you don't vote GOP just cause your horse didn't win the primary!

17. What a D-Bag
This author who claims to be a democrat who is neither liberal or progressive, who positions himself as informed enough to write political books, essentially was saying "I dont give a damn about politics, be nice to Hillary or my buddies and I are taking our balls and going home."

Sorry sir, but you HAVE no balls.

26. I thought the guest wasn't nearly so bad as most of the comments here would suggest
Alexander wasn't just spouting the line of the day from the RNC. I disagreed with just about everything he said, but he presented a consistent stand and attempted to support it with rational arguments, rather than by name-calling. (Yes, the interview did degenerate into some personal digs, from each of them, but the signal-to-noise ratio was unusually high, again from each of them.)

The one thing that struck me was when he said that he thought that Cenk was acting like a jerk. I wanted to say to him, "You go watch any of the RW talk shows when the guest is anywhere to the left of Dick Cheney. Then you'll see how an interviewer can be a jerk." I mean, gosh, Cenk actually let him complete his sentences, even paragraphs, without interrupting him incessantly. He was given a much more fair opportunity to express his thoughts than Cenk's RW counterparts would give an Obama supporter.
