2. I agree with the assessment
I too am disappointed with the results and with Obama's vote (along with my Senator McCaskill), but we know that McCain will not change it so what are the options?

9. McCaskill isn't a Senator!!!
Read how McCaskill represents her constituents. 60,000 missourians kicked of Medicaid by Matt Blunt and she stood there and watched it happen. Can she be impeached? 6 years is far to long for her type of representation. Where is Jim Talent?

10. First, Welcome to DU
that said, I am afraid that she is indeed a Senator. One that I disagree with on many issues, but nevertheless a Senator. I will say there are times I like Kit Bond better, because I know which way he will be voting (which is pretty much in disagreement with everything I believe, but at least I know), with Claire I hoped for much better.

16. Thanks Sherman A1
I have been fighting this shit for 6 years and have been under surveillance for that same period. You can read all about how the administration uses "wiretapping" and "surveillance" to protect the corruption.

17. Not at all...
that's like saying Joe Lieberman and (insert any centrist Democrat you choose here) are the same thing. Not even close. I may not always agree with McCaskil, but to compare her to Talent is absurd.

4. well I love Feingold but that was an apologia
I did NOT like the way Obama handled it, and no apologia will change that.

I doubt anybody was going to "not vote" for Obama, but we by god have a prurient interest in understanding where his head is at.

7. We'll see
This rhetoric is likely just an attempt to pacify Obama's far left supporters who feel disenfranchised by the FISA vote. Whether or not anything will actually be changed should Obama take office is uncertain. It wouldn't be the first time a politician failed to keep a promise.

That being said, Obama still has one intangible quality, a quality Gore and Kerry had as well, he's not the Republican candidate. So, GOOOOOO-Bama!

He needs a Democratic controlled Congress willing to pass legislation that he is willing to sign.

26. Feingold highlights work on the magic number 60 senate seats that is the answer....
Edited on Sat Jul-12-08 07:50 AM by barack the house
All that seems left is excuses to fail we need to bust our hides to get this done. Bush has held them to ransom with Iran but the game changes in 09 with our hard work.

30. We need 60 plus whatever number won't vote the right way.
That means Lieberman should not be included in that 60.

21. This was after the vote and obviously Feingold would rather see
Obama in the WH, so he would try and minimize the mistake at that point.

But...there are no guarantees and what Feingold said was "SHOULD allow us to greatly change this mistake..."

Did you listen to what Feingold said a few weeks ago about the reluctance of any president to relinquish powers?

24. I'm profoundly skeptical.
It seems to me the statutes of limitations on fisa violations (5 years?) is going to throw away a great deal by the time this could all work its way through the courts and the next Congress, even IF (big IF) he--Obama-- once in office, were to act at all in hindsight; he would have to act extremely quickly and put it above many other priorities.

Would he? Maybe. But his position in December said one thing about his commitment to this issue, and his actions, ending with his vote for cloture along with virtually all the Republicans, last week said quite another. To me, anyway.

28. Marcy Wheeler mentioned the statute of limitations on criminal
charges, saying that the 5 year limit could expire in April 2009, not sure if she is correct.

Hopefully nobody is thinking criminal charges will be brought against this administration for the illegal wiretapping.

Not happy with the way this was handled by a number of people and that includes Obama.

:(
