1. "Exotic" is code for "black"
Is there any question that the GOP is racist?

5. You have it wrong. It's more imaginative.
"Exotic" as the right will use it this election means "not American." If you listen to Buchanan carefully, he lays out exactly what the Republicans (via talk radio and the 527s) will campaign on.

Obama is not a product of the black American culture or story until he got to Chicago. He's the son of an African and a white woman who lived mostly outside the U.S. His father and stepfather were Muslims and not Americans. Obama did not grow up in the mainland U.S.

The right isn't going to run against a black. They are going to run against someone they will paint as "not American enough."

THAT's what they mean by exotic.

6. Most people are too stupid or apathetic to pick up that nuance.
Exactly the kind of people who make up the GOP base.

8. it's not a nuance in the places they go
It's spelled out pretty clearly for them. Their "opportunity" became clear with the photo of Obama not holding his hand over his heart. That other pundit says "of course we're going to go negative."

7. This move is aimed at dividing the black community between the
two groups. Trying to keep blacks from voting by making it a competition between those who are "real" black Americans and those who immigrated. However, that is not a true difference in this case.

9. yes, that's true
But it's also aimed at making flag-waving white folk afraid of him, too. Many Americans would balk at blatant racism. This gives them an excuse to say they aren't racist, just all-American.

18. I'm sure the black community can see through that foolishness.
I seriously doubt Obama's African born Father will push black Americans to vote for Repub McCain.

I heard some division (not much) when HRC presented a choice of Democrats. But, she's no longer in the race.

13. "Exotic" is code for "black"
And "This election will get nasty" is code for it will be racial. The GOP will be courting the bigot vote.

2. That was funny. They were ALL OVER him!
I actually (preparing for incoming) think when PB is being objective, he brings some very valid points to the mix.

This wasn't one of those times.

3. I saw this
And I was THRILLED at how the two women never let that asshole off the hook. They did the best thing they could have done - they laughed at him, showing him for the bigoted fool he is.

4. Exactly...
That happens far too rarely, although it does seem to be happening a bit more these days, especially on MSNBC.

PS---Don't forget to check out this great TYT clip (that was ineligible for the homepage) on how McCain's tax plan compares to Obama's: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x147839

10. This is a bit off the "exotic" topic but maybe not so much.
Yesterday while I was getting my hair cut by a woman I'm trying to convert to Obamaism I made the point that he has a tremendous grassroots support and that's how he has raised most of his campaign dollars.

She said, "Really? Well, I read just the other day that he's getting a lot of his money from FOREIGNERS."

So I pressed her on it and the best she could come up with was that a lot of his money came from a place named Kabul.

This is the kind of crap the right wing is spreading around to these gullible right-wing white voters.

AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

...from a friend of a friend, that in the world of pornography, "exotic" means non-white.

I'm just sayin'.

with "artistic" pretensions. But I agree that PB used that term to ("delicately") stress the black/alien aspect of Obama. Look to see it crop up frequently in "polite" discussion in the coming days.

PS: Pat Buchanan, to me, is an all but overt racist, and a anti-Semite to boot. I loathe much of what he stands for. But he has an incorruptible honesty, rarely seen in politics (including of the "left"). He's well worth listening to.
On edit: Here's an article from the magazine that PB is closely associated with: http://www.amconmag.com/2003/12_1_03/feature.html Few here on DU would find fault with it. Here's another: http://www.amconmag.com/2004/2004_02_02/cover.html
