I think there's a decent (but misguided) guy under there somewhere (unlike like George W where there isn't any decency even deep down), but he just gave in to politics and has no convictions that he has held onto

49. don't let Mythical Maverick get you with his goofy charm
He is very clear on his beliefs ... a total neocon , warmonger and lackie of the military industrial complex and war "think tanks". He has war-lust. McCain is just wishy-washy about everything else because he doesn't care about anything else, its all politics with him. That's why he's called the Mythical Maverick.

46. If Kerry was a double talker ...

Well, they called Kerry a double talker, in actuality he was just so long winded that he seemed perpetually ambiguous. But if Kerry is a double talker, than McCain is an octuple-talker.

Some time in the next 6 months, they'll have to do surgery to remove McCains lips for Dubaya's ass.

if he wants to get the nomination. It's clear he is just out of his element now because he is being someone he is not. He looks uncomfortable and weak now. He looked strong and sincere in the earlier clips.

40. unforunately
a similar video might be made about a certain one of our Democratic frontrunners. Read some of the quotes from 2001... she was one of the biggest cheerleaders of this war.

I don't expect a leader to be perfect, but the shifting with the political winds is not exactly leadership.

"Every nation has to either be with us, or against us. Those who harbor terrorists, or who finance them, are going to pay a price." Guess who said that? Hint: not George Bush.

entire political life--I remember the Keating Five and can easily name every one of them, movers and shakers all.

You can say one thing about GWB, he has convictions, be they his or his NeoCon masters. A leader needs some resolve. McCain hasn't got an ounce of it.

How the HELL can John Mccain be president with no discernible spine whatsoever?

23. A brief history of the savings and loan scandal, don't let it die:
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/pot281.shtml

Note this quote, made about the same time the GWB camp was viciously attacking his family:
McCain still describes the Keating probe as "a nightmare." He says that period was one of the most painful of his life "because my integrity and honor were under attack." McCain also said, "The thing I learned was that it's not only impropriety that counts; it's the appearance that is just as important."

The man considers his political career more important than defending his family from political venom. He hasn't the leadership to be president.

According to some I thought John Kerry was the only one that was guilty of that. ;) I voted for McCain in the Michigan primary when he ran against Bush as the lesser of two evils. But over the years I have formed a great dislike for the man. Not as much as Bush of course, but he someone I can't stand to look at just like Bush. He just irritates the hell out of me!

that to this day the Viet Nam veteran lives in a fish bowl. As one, USMC '69, I've grown older under a veil of having never been there, having never volunteered to serve my country and, for having done so, suffered the big lie, "dolce et decorum est/pro patria mori." Whereas the WWI veteran, including (among many in my NC/ALA family) my father, US Army third wave D-Day and My Uncle USMC, second wave Iwo Jima, rightly enjoy the respect of a grateful nation, I, Mu Gai Pass and the Rock Pile, feel no such respect to this day. John McCain has deteriorated into a fool not because of his politics, he's probably never truly understood the terms but, as the father of a respected Navy admiral and a patriot, and like me given unto the big lie that in our war was a devilish lie (as it is now). Viet Nam veterans have been and are now easily crushed by that time honored practice of rush to judgment by those who never served. I feel for John even as I lament his quixotic turn from the moral values that caused him to refuse release from the Hanoi Hilton because of his father's stature, to endure then five more years of torture. John McCain is even now tortured, mentally tortured by politics as damnable and riddled with lies as was his physical torture 40 years ago. I suffer far less than he, but I suffer the same stigma of my nation, our nation we volunteered to defend, that so easily andsurely turned and continues to turn its collective back on it defenders. And I don't refer to its citizens, I refer to its politicians and talking heads whose avarice and idiosyncratic view of the world allow them to blithely reduce men and women of honor into hapless failures. John Kerry, Max Cleland and so many others have had the respect they're due reduced to insignificance, even ridicule, by war wimps and liars like Cheney, Coulter and Hannity who do so for purely insidious reasons the least of which is the patriotism of their convictions.

Please don't condemn John, nor pity him. Thank him for his distinguished, brave, selfless service to our crumbling country as someone who believed in its impeccable tenets. Visit the Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary Soldier in Philadelphia, our first and surest patriot, and ask yourself over his grace what you think of today's veterans, those made and in the making.

29. John McCain put HIMSELF in that fishbowl.
I'm very sorry about what happened to him in Vietnam. I've read multiple books about the Hanoi Hilton, so I at least know (in an intellectual way) what happened to him. I will never truly understand what happened to him on an emotional level.

Still, this video proves conclusively he doesn't belong in politics. The reason for his inability to take a stand doesn't matter when it comes to fitness to serve.

36. Did I ever say he belongs in politics?
I don't think so. In fact, I'm pret-ty sure I said he probably hasn't a clue what it is. As to him putting himself in that fishbowl, I'm pre-ty sure I haven't a clue what you mean by that, especially so in my having said ALL Viet Nam veterans have been living in a fish bowl because of the nasty attitude of war wimps and intellectual feel-gooders who's opinions of war seem to matter more than those who've experienced war. You don't know a thing about what that man xperienced, and to opine that you do stinks to high heaven. Don't vote for him, I never have. And don't like him, and don't care about him, whatever, but do you have to dinegrate him? It seems to me that you have to, and in so doing, to me, you're the lesser human being.

He chose to get into the public arena, and he is staking out positions that hurt real people. That is politics; it is fair game to show people a candidate's hypocrisy. It's not denigration.

33. McCain has been my senator his entire political career and it terrifies me
(yes, TERRIFIES) to imagine him in the Oval Office in the event of another 9/11 or Pearl Harbor.

When I have called his office regarding upcoming Senate votes, I get wishy-washy statements from his staffers regarding how we will vote. If he doesn't support a bill, I'd rather he just say it. Not so, unfortunately. He gauges his response based on his audience. There's no courage of conviction in that.

I may despise GWB, but I'll give him this--he has convictions even though he is so horribly wrong in them.

Yes, McCain was an incredibly brave war hero--and he never lets us forget it. It's so incredibly sad that he's forgotten it himself. He's a political whore who seems to have learned nothing from his war experience. I was traised by a WW2 vet and have known many, many vets all of whom have learned a sustaining lesson about courage from their experiences.

Not John McCain. He's a sad, scary man and he should refuse to run if he truly loves the country he once proudly served.

That makes for a horrible leader. As bad as this administration nis, I am horrified to think how McCain would respond to a threat even on our own soil. There is simply no spine there whatsoever. It's truly terrifying to think of him in the Oval Office.

Terrifying. Think of him in the event of another Pearl Harbor or 9/11 attack, without enough time to properly gauge his audience. He scares me even more than GWB, he really does.
