They asked him if he were a journalist, to elaborate on what he meant when he accused Moyers of "playing games" in a previous conversation about appearing on Bill O'Really?'s show.. and poor Porter couldn't answer.
I loved the end part of Porter's conversation with Moyers, when Moyers said he'd give Porter some job recommendations if he decided to become a real journalist. ROFL

The RWers' bullshit houses of cards fall apart at the slightest blow, someone just has to make that little blow. After eight (or more) years of their bullshit determining the "discourse", it's time for them to get pawned like that EVERY time they open their mouths... they have nothing.

 |
Almost. He looked like a puppy that had his bone taken away. You can tell he was just simply not expecting that. He was expecting to go in there, put Bill Moyers off his guard, humiliate him and walk off with a smug smile and a little chuckle. The right wingers have gotten so arrogant over the past few years that they simply expect their same tactics to work over and over again. When they fail they get all flustered and sheepish and act like they really have no idea what's going on. And the truth is, they don't. They're still living in the past, not realizing that they have shot their wad and America is on to their bullshit.
Job well done Mr. Moyers.

 |
A real journalist, like Bill Moyers, will ask O'Reilly about his ideas on journalism and its role in American society. Now, I can't say for sure, but it seems to me that O'Reilly's idea of journalism is propagating right wing crap. If I'm right, that will come out in a discussion between O'Reilly and Moyers on Moyers' turf.
On O'Reilly's turf, there will be no discussion. It will just be O'Reilly shouting down Moyers.
All considered, Mr. Moyers was very generous in giving a representative of Bill O'Reilly that much time. It's more than O'Reilly deserves.

Anybody want to call, ahead of time, how O'Reiley will cut and spin this? What one or two word cliche he will press into service in a new and utterly misleading way to reframe this?
Here's my guess: He's going to call Bill M a left wing bully.
"Talking points has said repeatedly that we will never encourage yellow journalism by engaging with and rewarding this kind of bullying from elements in the far left. Their own tape shows these cowards attacking our reporter."

Bill treats the man fairly well, and it is cool to see him do that.
Those who follow the man have ok questions for him, but they come across uncomfortably like partisans out to gang up on someone.
And each time that something like that happens to us, we are outraged, but when it happens to one of these folks, we are like, YEAH! COOL! PILE ON!
Demonizing the opponent is great in blowing off steam, feeling relieved that we know that it is all really simple, us vs. them, good vs. evil.
Getting into the warfare aspect of it is fun, but I think we will do better in the long run if we welcome people into our camp
I think we are better than this. So, he "got what he deserved" etc, but we who want good journalism, and respectful treatment should demonstrate what we believe in.
Otherwise we just give the others more evidence that we are bad guys (and then they play the same game...)

But the added, unnecessary piling on at the end pales in comparison to the comments on YouTube. I'm just really disheartened at the direction taken by a sector of Democrats; I thought we were better than that, too. I hope they don't lose the election by focusing on & engaging in arguments about certain aspects -- there could be multiples of USSC justices retiring in the next term.

When you get into a yelling, name-calling match the way O'Reilly and most of these other RW talking stooges do, it's a sign that they know they're wrong; they have run out of valid talking points; and all they have left is to try to put down the person they're interviewing and yell over them when they attempt to give their talking points.
Most of the RW talk shows control who speak on the program so that it gives the listeners the impression that everyone's OK with the host's point of view. Rarely do you hear them allow a dissenting opinion reach the airwaves.

but I'm not that uncomfortable with it myself. This was a demonstration of the dirtiness and triviality of the tactics Porter himself is using in the employ of Bill O'Reilly. My guess is that this person had never been on the business end of his own tactics, and if he has any introspection, the question "is this journalism" might actually make it into his system.
If this approach was used outside of the above context I think I would be more turned off by it.

"I'm an objective reporter and I've never used this technique before now" Who was that guy following Porter at the end? It shines a light on who these doofuses from Fox are and how they go about "getting the news"
Maybe that guy was pushing it a bit but I think an objective journalist would ask most of those questions to Porter after witnessing the exchange with Moyers.

This guy Porter went after Moyers; he put himself in that position. When it blows up in his face, and Moyers completely destroys him with calm Reason, why should we not be glad? If someone went to the zoo and started taunting the lions, and one of the lions was able to get a hold of him and ripped him to shreds, shouldn't everyone think, "Dumbass got what he deserved"?
And at the end, the reporters who follow him out and pester him with questions are simply putting him through what he was attempting with Moyers.

| 52. On a related issue, how did the McCarthyism era end? |
 |
It seems to me that we may be reaching a similar point. In the case of McCarthy, it was one bully who had a bully pulpit in Congress. The corporations backed him because they saw that as the safe place to be. I'm not really tuned into how that changed, but I surmise there came a time when McCarthy was discredited and the corporations no longer saw safety in being behind him.
In our present case the bullies are in the media more than the government, but of course Cheney and Bush have been eager to feed the notion that there is a commie terrorist around every corner. However, it seems that we are starting to see a rebellion. I wonder how much longer before the likes of Limbaugh and O'Reilly are regarded in the same infamy as old Joe McCarthy.

of all their lies and BS leading up to the Iraq war.
