to pick good people to be on his team. He will not be like Bush and McCain, he will not run this country to benefit his big oil buddies.
He will pick a VP, an extremely competent cabinet. Bush has a bunch of yes men and woman on staff. Anyone that did not agree with that protocol got fired. and labeled a traitor or unpatriotic. To everyone who is not for Obama, do you honestly in your heart of hearts believe Obama will, fire people who don't agree with him, run this country to benefit big corporations, hire ridiculously under qualify people for top level positions, ie FEMA, and Homeland security.
And by the was since coming out with the wildly popular color code threat detector, what has Tom Ridge done?????????
McSame is so scary please don't hand our country over to this nutbag without a bloody fight!

Obama doesn't have any history to support that. If you do, please provide it. He hasn't been in any position that I am aware of where he has put together a group of people to work for him other than for his campaign.
Bush on the other hand had history as a Governor and the people still elected him. They wrongly considered him competent despite the fact that Governors in Texas is essentially a do nothing office with very little power.

My feeling on this is he is not lying -- I think he just doesn't have any recollection minute to minute of what he said 10 seconds ago -- I really think this to be true.
This man is being used in some fashion because of his delusions. The repubs don't understand that we are on to them -- It's over!!!
The republicans were off on the wrong foot from the beginning of this campaign -- one looser after another. They didn't have one decent candidate. McCain was down to what -- 13% approval or less at his bottom figure? How could he end up on top?
I know -- it was by default. It died from the top down. The machine could have used any of them. They used * with not much trouble. (But then his grandfather was one of the guiding forces back in 1938). So John McCain won by default -- last man out, as it were.
McCain, like *, is not the brightest bulb on the tree (or is that the bush?). He was at the bottom of his classes -- had lost 2 planes before he graduated flight school and lost 3 more jets before his capture. Thank God for his capture, otherwise we could still be trying to catch up making new planes.
So is he lying or is he just a dead stump like his bff *?

Which, according to Harry Frankfurt in his awesome essay "On Bullshit," is worse than being a liar, because liars at least acknowledge that there is an objective truth (even though they then subvert it by lying). A bullshitter doesn't care whether what he's saying is true or not, only that it helps him advance in the eyes of his audience.
A bullshitter is fundamentally an intellectual coward--even a liar has the courage to defend his lies before a hostile (i.e. educated) audience, but a bullshitter will just go from, for instance, "tax cuts for everyone!" to "I voted repeatedly against tax cuts."
Calling McCain a liar, then, is giving him too much credit, since he really doesn't give a shit what the truth is, only whatever will get him through the present interview, speech, convention, and election. In fact, that makes him worse than Bush, since Bush is just a liar--you can usually guess what the truth really is by whatever the opposite of what he says is: tax cuts stimulate the economy? Gotta be the other way around. The terrorists are on the run? Al Qaeda must be getting stronger, etc. With McCain, sometimes what he's saying is the truth, but it's only by coincidence.

| 104. That's the beauty of blogs and websites. |
 |
A couple of elections ago, McCain's flip flopping would have gone undetected, or it would have been picked up so late in the game it would have been irrelevant.
Today, blogs, YouTube and other media get the word out instantly on a candidate's lying. More people are on to the candidate when he/she is pandering by saying one thing to a group and the opposite to another group.
Republicans haven't figured that out apparently.
Or, are they just trying to take the easy way out of this through their attempts to restrict the internet? They've had the luxury of doing this in other situations, but haven't done it here yet, thank God.

Thing is, they hope we feel sorry for the poor old codger and don't hit him with our best shots but while I feel badly for him that his mind is going, I and others need to hit hard enough to keep that awful shadow government out of play. They've had their 8 years and look what we got.

 |
I live in a hippy enclave and I socialize with polyamorists and GLBTers so I think you can guess how many Republicans are in that group. Though recently a new person showed up at the poly meeting, well, a new couple in this case and politics came up and it's really mostly like preaching to the choir but he was obviously a Bush Republican so rather than blasting him out of the water, I have to give my group great kudos for just letting him tell us why and it had to do with his business and how Bush helps business owners but his business has taken a bath since the gas price hike so he's wavering. We gently (Did I mention how proud I was of my group? I facilitate but rarely have to intervene) talked about the causes of the increase and the ways in which this current administration wasn't helping and how McCain wasn't planning to help either. I directed him towards The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein.
It occurs to me that I should make some spiffy CDs of some of the most damning stuff and give him a pile along with that book. I'm quite sure he knows a few Republicans when I know only him.
It was nice that he wrote me later and said that while politics can be so contentious, our group, while disagreeing with his point of view, listened politely and didn't fall all over themselves to explain where he was wrong. He said it gave him the space to figure those things out for himself. There may be hope yet for this guy.

 |
Democrats must quit gambling with our nation's future in order to make political statements. Obama has done nothing to prove himself worthy of the presidency. It's been all talk. I'm afraid that if Obama does get elected it will only serve to establish the dangerously shallow-minded notion that the US presidency is to be used to make social/political statements and that it's best to elect under-qualified, inexperienced politicians because they represent "change."
Republicans made the same egregious error by electing Bush. He, too, was under-qualified, but they believed he could promote their social/political agenda, even at the expense of our nation's best interests. He proved a miserable failure at both, and yet we still haven't learned from America's historic mistake. We somehow think that it's ok to do the same thing as long as it's a Democrat. Had we used our heads and nominated the best qualified, most experienced Democrat, Joe Biden, there would be no reason for anyone to consider voting for McCain except the most hopeless neo-conservatives. We would guarantee success in the general election and have someone who has the experience necessary to bring about real change.
I can't sanction an Obama presidency with my vote, and it's not due to my clinging to my fear of people different from myself. It's due to my fear of those who make such arrogant and insulting comments about Americans, many whom I care deeply about.

Your subject title doesn't seem to flo into your comments, but maybe it's me. Anyway ---
You commented -- "He, too, was under-qualified, but they believed he could promote their social/political agenda, even at the expense of our nation's best interests. He proved a miserable failure at both, and yet we still haven't learned from America's historic mistake".
The past few days there have been a number of threads (posts here and there) dating back to pre WWII and the influence from wealthy Americans -- Geo Bushes grandfather being one of them.
George Bush has preformed EXACTLY as these "King Makers" have required!
The under current of the Republican party has been to undermine the basic structure of the United States. To bring it down -- and Bush along with Chaney have held to their calling doing a monumental destruction of the under pinnings of this country these past 7+ years.
I was born into a southern baptist Republican family in the 30's but as of 2003 became a Democratic.
I agree, Joe Biden would be an awesome president but, the simple fact is that is not going to happen. Maybe as VP would work -- works for me anyway!
John McCain is only the next step in the destruction of America.

What kind of idiotic bullshit is that? I'm sorry, I can't be nice about this. Your candidate lost, grow the fuck up and do what is right.
This experience you claim to be so important has gotten us in to the mess we are in now. Clinton's experiance lead to this war. Biden's did too. To his credit he actually read the 92 page intelligence report on Iraq prior to voting for it, but in the end he still voted for this idiotic war.
We had one viable candidate that was against this war from the start, and that was Obama. We found out with Kerry that no matter how much you claim to be against something it won't matter if you cast that original vote for it. I really don't understand what the fuck your problem is but you all need to stop this bullshit. I never thought I would see this kind of idiotic irrationality around this place, I was proven wrong when the primaries came around.

how accurate is it? For example when they showed him saying the general over in Iraw rides in an unarmored humvee and then saying he rides in an upper armored humvee and I am wondering about the time for those, in other words which one came first? I just wanna be sure its accurate because if it is I might post a link to it on another political forum I visit and I really dont wanna get caught with my pants down as it were and be shown that its not accurate.

8 years of a below average, war-mongering, dishonest, immoral and unethical right wing asshole. The last thing we need is 4 more years. I agree that Obama will eat him for lunch, but what scares me is that the typical voter, who doesn't pay attention to what's going on until the last 2 weeks of the campaign may not find out about the real John McInsane until he is already in office. By then it will be too late. So, while I agree that Obama should be able to wipe the floor with him, I am going to be biting my fingernails until the election is over. Oh, and BTW, Obama DOES need to wipe the floor with him, because if the results are close, well you all know how that can turn out....

I wish that was made into a TV ad. I wrote an E-mail to MoveOn.org asking them to use the 60 Minutes footage of McCain lying about his walk through Baghdad. McCain is getting away with pretending he's a "straight talker" and the media is backing him up. The only way to destroy that image is with word of mouth or advertisements. I'll send the link along.

of a certain percentage of the country's voters. I mean, look at how idiotic GWB looked against John Kerry during the debates in '04. Honestly, it was like setting up a chimp to debate Einstein. And look what came of it.... No doubt the same people who voted for Bush in '04 because he "looked like someone who'd be fun to have a few beers with" would probably vote for McCain because he reminds them of their crazy but beloved old Uncle Stumpy who lives in the chicken coop instead of his own house and talks to himself while crawling around the town common looking for leprechauns. It's truly frightening how many people are willing to elect someone who reminds them of their mentally retarded relatives or the dog they had when they were 12 years old...

My God, I watched those debates and was totally amazed at how clueless Bush came across, especially in the first debate. I watched the ensuing debates, expecting Bush to improve due to coaching and being better prepared for the questions posed to him. He still sounded like someone who had no handle on the issues.

but I'm afraid that when a lot of people actually cast their vote for President, I think there are still too many people who will convince themselves that they're not yet ready for a Black president (assuming Obama is the nominee) and will vote for McCain by default. I think the same mindset is present if Hillary should be the nominee.
From what I've seen in this campaign season and in other events in my life, there's still a lot of bigotry out there.

You are so right. Look how the poor old fool is falling apart in the early going. Gaffe after gaffe, foolish remark after foolish remark. Endless flip-flops.
Just as you said, he is in way over his head. bush is over his head as president but he campaigned "well". mcSame can't even run a campaign right. He can't keep his story straight for a week at a time. And this is the easy part!

Instead, the MSM news gerbils proliferate this "straight talk express" and "maverick" myth.

He doesn't get that there are thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands out there willing to research the veracity of his claims. He can't just throw some crap out there and assume that it won't be looked at. It won't be by the paid "reporters" but there are true reporters out here who will hang his ass out to dry.
