Who said the Republican Party isn't "the Party of ideas"?

Clearly at a loss on how to resolve the violence in Iraq, the White House has decided that the only way to control the violence in Iraq is to build a 12-foot high, 3 mile long wall completely around the "Sadr City" section of Baghdad, home to the largest population of minority Sunni's in Baghdad.

And as you would expect when a foreign army tries to wall your entire neighborhood in, trapping not only insurgents, but every civilian man, woman and child inside, turning it into a giant prison, the people inside are fighting wildly to stop them, turning the project into the most deadly in Iraq.

Remember this story the next time you hear someone say "The Surge is working." If the Surge was working, this wouldn't be necessary. And it certainly isn't a "permanent" solution. Just something to suppress the violence long enough for Bush to get out of office and McCain to get elected on claims of "how peaceful" Baghdad has become (thanks to The Surge he advocated).

2. Walls instead of peace?
Let's see here. There is a wall in Israel, one is being built at our southern border and now a wall around Sadr City.

Remember the Berlin Wall? It not only kept the West out, it kept the Easterners in and made surveillance of every moment of the lives of those within the walls much simpler. Hmmmmm. How long until we have walls around elite areas of our country? What's that you say? Haven't I heard of gated communities? Are gated Americans being protected or controlled? How can we be so sure?

9. Last year there was a plan for a moat around Bhagdad
Combine the two, and there you go. A drawbridge or two and its the twelfth century again.

4. It would be my guess that there is tunneling going on already;
Anyone remember 'The Great Escape?' Also, since most of Sadr City is still open, those wanting to leave can do so. It looks like there will be more huge battles ahead.

Sadr City ... al Sadr ... Shiite. Not Sunnis. As Williams states... "Shiite-controlled", and as Engel reports, the wall is intended to control Shiite militias.

edit: edited to remove "radical"; how radical is it to fight an occupying force in your own country?

Didja know they are obtaining biometrics and dna from every Iraqi they can find?
Now putting up a Berlin wall..
or is it a Warsaw Wall?

Practice for American cities, I tell you. Obvious as hell.

as if we needed more proof our Gov't has been taken over by Neo-Nazis.

13. I'm sure a lot of Iraqis compare this to Israel building walls on West Bank land.
Not a good way to win a war.
