Be sure to check out the Six Degrees Of Barack Obama (and think about how close you are to him): http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5732724&mesg_id=5732724

PS---Keep in mind you can always watch The Young Turks 24 hours a day at www.theyoungturks.com . The streaming video/audio means you can minimize the window and surf the net or post at DU while you hear Cenk break down the latest politics.

And you can also join the chat while the show is on live from 3-5pm EST, and during the post game show (where in addition to politics, many other less serious topics are discussed) from 5-7pm EST.

1. Ok, so I watched this
but I have to respectfully disagree with Cenk here. If you watch the interview, watch how Obama gently re-frames the questions that Chris Wallace asks to build consensus. It's kind of the same thing that Jon Stewart does with neocon guests . . . the velvet glove with the fist of logic inside.

I, too, wish that Obama had just said to Faux, "you are an outlet of propaganda" and ignored them. Since he didn't, however, it is better not to give them anything they can chop up and use against him. Obama's careful jujitsu in this interview was subtle and intelligent, calming, and consensus building (in so far as the GOP can be reasoned with). But this interview was not for Faux - it was for Fox watchers who might still have two brain cells that are firing.

2. I agree with you...
As much as I would have wished Obama never went on Fox News, or as he did to then chew their heads off, that wouldn't have helped his situation. There is a reason why we should be fortunate that people like Dennis Kucinich, Al Gore and even Cenk himself are not running for President bc they all would be destroyed by the MSM in its current state. In another world where our news media is fair and balanced, then we can have a debate on facts and vital issues. All Obama does is disarm their attacks and make them look foolish in the process as they flop around like dying fish.

4. 2 Points
1)-I hope you're right, I really, really do. I'm somewhere in between Cenk and you on this issue. First off, he NEVER should've gone on Fox News and I'm was very disappointed that he did. And secondly, while he did some things well, I *do* think he could've done better without compromising his "different kind of candidate" theme.

2)-Well, anyone who dismissed Cenk as an Obama shill should concede they were wrong now. You can agree or disagree with Cenk on this or every other issue, but one thing everyone has to admit is that the guy is pretty damn fair to *both* candidates. He provides substantive criticism and praise when it's deserved and has no hidden agenda. That doesn't mean he's perfect or completely free of bias, but on that note, NO ONE is.

19. I'm with you on that.
Cenk is my go to guy for election coverage. I do not always agree with him, but he lays out his reasoning in a way that is always understandable. I think Obama was doing this for the Fox News watchers who have maybe not seen him EVER. But BOY was i disappointed when he said the Wright issue was relevant. Then again either way he they will spin it. If he had questioned it as a political issue, the spin would have been "Obama thinks Americans are stupid to care!". Not going on is the safe way, what he did was the next best thing.

Like Cenk, I am worried. I don't want Obama to change, I want the political world to change. I think that is really what his campaign is about. Unlike Kerry, and Hillary, he keeps being himself.

8. thats not the point Fox calls theself fair and balance
which is the greatest lie in news journalism. They use rightwing talking points to advance a Republican cause at the expense of this country as well as good Democrats seeking office.

7. Obama did alright, but when the primary is over he needs to fight like a cornered badger
Not against John McCain necessarely, but against his surrogates like the swiftboat goons.

10. Did he make a promise to go on? If so then he had to keep his word.
Someone still has to be able to.

As for the fight or fuse debate, Obama has made it clear he wants to fuse the country together after the division of the past. If he seemed too confontational on FOX fake news the people who watch it who may still be persuadable would have been lost.

It is a delicate line and many feel fight is much more effective. But you need to pick your fights. The time. The place. And even allow others to carry the bad guy image for you. In that respect I think Cenk is right about Obama. He is not a naturally confrontational person. Perhaps someone in the VP position with more fight in his or her would help to balance the ticket without having to take Obama out of his natural position as the peacemaker.

At the risk of sounding racist, I would add FOX would love to get their hands on tape with a black male presidential candidate losing his temper. It's OK for John McCain to call his wife the worst thing a man can call a woman, tell a fellow senator to F off, and to physically assault a fellow senator, but A BLACK MAN losing his temper? FOX would have that on a loop and have scary, threatening music playing in the background. The playing field is not even by a long shot. What's OK for McShame.....

12. Agree with Cenk
No one (outside of DU, that is) respects a wimp, they respect a fighter.

It's time for Obama to shift gears. The sunshine and rainbows routine may have worked well for him for awhile, but you can't expect to stay stuck in Gore/Kerry mode forever and not expect to get eaten alive in this race. Come on Obama, grow a spine for once!

when he had the chance, and it has come back to haunt him.

now it is the white lady who is putting HIM away.

14. That appearance
made me decided not to vote for Obama. I am disappointed and depressed over what he said in that interview.

Cenk was correct in stating that Obama should never have agreed to go on FAUX. But he was especially correct when he talked about answering rw questions. They led him right into a trap and he went willingly.

Now my vote will not cancel out my fathers'. :(

15. If you look between a rock and a hard place...
You find an African-American presidential candidate that is being overly cautious about being perceived as an "angry black man." This was pointed out to me months ago by an African-American friend who noted that the black community will perceive this as weak or "Uncle Tom-ish," but if he comes across as strong as he really feels, or is appropriate, he will scare many white voters. It's a very difficult position.

Personally, I think he needs to err (if indeed it is an error) on the side of strength...those that he might "scare" I don't think would ever vote for him anyway.

on Faux news. I'll have to find a clip of it, as I didn't see it.
