2. Randi has lost all respect from me
I used to listen to her. Even liked her at times....

But her dem bashing has gone too far. And I have now come to the belief that hate talk radio is hate talk radio... whether it is on the left or the right.

Lost a listener here, Randi. And I know I'm not the only one.

12. You're correct on one point.
"I think we are ALL being played like fiddles. And we can't even see it...."

This is why I have stated several times on this forum that the only person I felt deserved my vote was Dennis Kucinich which is why I will be abstaining this election from voting for President. Reason, all of the candidates who are left take positions which violate some of my basic moral principles which I will not have no part with someone who'll violate them.

It is the first time in my adult life (and I am 41 years old) that I will abstain from voting for a President.

30. Compromise with whom?
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 10:13 AM by Gonnuts
It's one thing to compromise with someone that has a different position on an issue it's quite another to compromise with out-right criminals and those who may well be our sworn enemies.

Your contention would work if politics as a whole and as we have it now were not so thoroughly corrupted by interests that have least to do with the concerns of The People as opposed to Industry. Again we are down to candidates that parrot concerns for status-quo instead of real progressive change and it's mainly due to our flawed and antiquated election process. All of The People's true candidates have been weeded out and what we have left is Tweedledee, Tweedledum and Tweedledummer. Those that would have challenged the real power structure have been eliminated and again when it comes to the general election we'll have two Melba Toast candidates to choose from instead on anyone that actually thinks of The People's interests first.

We could go a long way in getting our financial house in order if we did away with a corrupt Federal Reserve Bank. The very fact that we allow a private bank to print our money and lend our own money back to us at rates that would make a loan-shark envious is insanity in of itself, but do you hear any of the so-called front-runners every mention this? The fact that this so-called "war on terror" was manufactured by corporations more interested in profits they can make by maintaining a war economy than investing in peace and we have all the candidates parroting the MIC message urging we continue to place the fight against terror through military might, which is the absolute worst way to address the issue, instead of addressing the root-cause of terror speaks volumes. The fact that we have candidates that refuse to even consider eliminating all insurance companies from the medical industry and making health care an absolute right for every person shows where their interests truly reside. The fact that 9/11 was the worst investigated crime ever and there are thousands of unanswered questions that need addressing and none of the candidates ever mention 9/11 unless it's to stoke the flames of fear to garner more votes also high-lights the cowardliness and duplicity of the remaining candidates. The fact that there is evidence of crimes committed by the current administration that by any standard amounts to High Crimes against the Constitution and Bill of Rights and the People of this country and none of the current so-called front-runners mention holding them accountable through impeachment pretty much tells us where they stand on allowing our country to be destroyed.

No - your brand of "compromise" is something We the People should not have to stomach any more.

You really don't know what Hillary stands for. This has been the talk with Volunteers for Obama here in Atlanta. You don't know what Hillary stands for because you can't trust her. Her decisions are made with the political wind. The only thing you know about Hillary is that you are electing a crazy person. As soon as the general election come, she will switch to "General Election" mode as John Edwards has said before...

My contention is that the people we have representing us - don't. Not Obama, not Clinton, and certainly not McInsane. Our system is broken. Kaput. Can't be fixed, at least not using the people in power and system we have now. And please don't ask me what we should do. That answer should be obvious.

83. I don't think calling
folks repukes just because they dislike the Clintons or support Obama is really necessary, but, if that is how you honestly feel.

Myself, I am no fan of Obama, but, I have much more respect for him than I do the Clintons.

As for "what good the Clintons did for the people of this country". Well, as a union member, here's a few things I remember about Clinton. I remember Clinton giving the same ultimatum to the striking American Airline pilots that Ronald Reagan gave to the striking Air Traffic Controllers. I also remember Clinton one year later giving the same ultimatum to the striking American Airline flight attendants. I remember Clinton signing NAFTA in complete disregard to us organized labor's lobby for him not to do so. I remember Clinton's Counter Terrorism Act being legislation which erodes parts of our constitution. I remember Clinton's "Plan Colombia".

I also remember the prison industrial complex's sharp increase of citizens being jailed due to simple possession of marijuana while under Clinton.

In the Clinton years, police overreach in the name of the Drug War shredded much of what remained of the Bill of Rights. And those most frequently caught in its web were not the "drug kingpins" legislators claimed to be going after. Mothers, fathers, small-time dealers, medical-marijuana users and even children were caught in a criminal- justice system so overgrown no one is immune to the new powers Johnny Law uses to protect us from ourselves. And while much of the horror heaped on the American public has occurred at the state and local levels, the tenor of the times begins at the top-which places the responsibility squarely at Bill Clinton's feet.

When Bill Clinton took office in January 1993, the violent crack epidemic of the late 1980s was already subsiding. Nonetheless, the galloping expansion of police powers and the prison system didn't skip a beat, and law enforcement shifted to a new emphasis on marijuana. When Clinton entered office, the prison population-local, state and federal-was about 1.3 million. As he leaves, that number has ballooned to over 2 million, the highest rate of incarceration-as well as the highest total number behind bars-in a democratic state in the history of the world.

http://www.mapinc.org/newscfdp/v01/n087/a05.html?6793

So Clinton might have accomplished a few good things, but, I remember Clinton all too well not to remember him as some kind of Democrat saint that some Clintonites do.

After Mining Deal, Financier Donated to Clinton

By JO BECKER and DON VAN NATTA Jr.
Published: January 31, 2008
Late on Sept. 6, 2005, a private plane carrying the Canadian mining financier Frank Giustra touched down in Almaty, a ruggedly picturesque city in southeast Kazakhstan. Several hundred miles to the west a fortune awaited: highly coveted deposits of uranium that could fuel nuclear reactors around the world. And Mr. Giustra was in hot pursuit of an exclusive deal to tap them.

Unlike more established competitors, Mr. Giustra was a newcomer to uranium mining in Kazakhstan, a former Soviet republic. But what his fledgling company lacked in experience, it made up for in connections. Accompanying Mr. Giustra on his luxuriously appointed MD-87 jet that day was a former president of the United States, Bill Clinton.

-snip

snip

"Kazakhstans president, Nursultan A. Nazarbayev, whose 19-year stranglehold on the country has all but quashed political dissent."

"Mr. Nazarbayev walked away from the table with a propaganda coup, after Mr. Clinton expressed enthusiastic support for the Kazakh leaders bid to head an international organization that monitors elections and supports democracy."

-snip

Just months after the Kazakh pact was finalized, Mr. Clintons charitable foundation received its own windfall: a $31.3 million donation from Mr. Giustra that had remained a secret until he acknowledged it last month. The gift, combined with Mr. Giustras more recent and public pledge to give the William J. Clinton Foundation an additional $100 million, secured Mr. Giustra a place in Mr. Clintons inner circle, an exclusive club of wealthy entrepreneurs in which friendship with the former president has its privileges.

I REALLY don't want 4 more years of authoritarian profiteering, I'm not sure America can survive the next 10 months of it.

4. Again with the Hill supporters trying to take the moral high ground.
You have no standing to do so.

Hillary IS a monster. Voting against banning cluster bombs after voting to use force on a sovereign nation is pretty fucking monsterous.

Stomping through the garden like a spoiled child trying to stamp out the sprouting budlettes of hope and change if she can't get what she wants is pretty fucking monsterous.

Trying to swiftboat a democratic candidate while pumping up the republican candidate so you can try to get another shot in four years is pretty fucking monsterous.

If you can point to something that Randy said that isn't true, do it. But don't even fucking try to take some moral high ground stating that your candidate is or deserves any better.

79. Obama would have beaten the Original Candidate
Jim Ryan was getting beaten here in Chicago and also he was losing in down-state Illinois. Former Senator Paul Simon was backing him down-state. He was against the war in Iraq before it was cool to be against it. At the time it was political suicide to be against the Iraqi war. Using your logic Hillary's claim to fame is being married to Bill Clinton and voting to give Bush a blank check to go to war in Iraq.

Now on to Randi Rhodes. I respect her now and I've always have respected her. Not only is she smart but she backs up her opinions with facts. Just because facts has a Obama bias doesn't mean you can throw out the facts. Just like Randi I was able to put up with Hillary's lies and distortions but the final straw was when she endorsed McCain. She did that because she knows that the chances for her to win the nomination is slim to none and that McCain probably be a one term President. Since she can't win now she figures she can set herself up for 2012. I hope this backfires in Hillary's face and Obama not only wins the nomination but also the Presidency this November.

The thing is it is not only Randi who is for Obama but it Micheal Moore, Stephanie Miller, Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz, Bill Mahr and other respected liberal minds. All hillary got in her corner is Bill Cunningham, Anne Culter and Rush Limbaugh.

I predicting this now if McCain is President expect World War 3. Russia and China won't sit by as we bomb Iran. I for one will not be forced to fight in McCain's war because the draft will be reinstated and I'm still young enough to be drafted. The future of this country and the world is at stake.

Experience isn't everything to me judgment is more important. John McCain has experience as a matter of fact he has more experience then Hillary, he is also a war hero, but he has bad judgment the list is too long to get into in this post. So far Hillary's judgment hasn't been good. Her Health care plan rewards the insurance companies that picks and chooses who the will cover and what procedures that they would cover. She voted for the Iraqi war even though the international community and most Americans who was paying attention during the run up to the IWR vote was against it. It was Hillary who thought that the Democratic primary would be over Feb. 5. She let her surrogates alienate half of the party and the new young voters who for the first time are voting in droves.

Posting this crap is as bad as Hillary Clinton saying John McCain is more qualified to be President than Barack Obama! You are making Obama supporters look bad by posting links to a crap hit job featuring negative comments by Bay Buchanan, Ann Coulter, and Robert Novak. I wouldn't believe those lying b*st*rds if they told me the sky was blue!

Go back under your bridge, troll. :grr:

(hint- take a potty break and when you return the ODUT
{Official Democratic Underground Timer} should have counted up
enough minutes since you registered this morning to let you post).

3- ALL DU accounts are "New"- the boards refresh every 24 hours at 00:00 GMT.

Hope this information helps you and a big "Welcome" to DU!!! Enjoy your stay!

43. Randi Rhodes was spot on this week --- finally some truth!!
This idea --- at any time --- that truth should be hidden so as to "not divide a party" leaves
us only with inferior candidates.

We don't have to spend a year vetting candidates ---
It can be done in two or three months ---

This idea that we finally get things "tied up with a bow" neatly is proving another illusion ---

The earlier all this is happening, the worse off we are ---

59. So it's ok
For Hillary to bash Obama and say McCain would be a better President than Obama but for anyone who disagrees with Hillary well they must be fired? Hillary did this all by HERSELF. If she didn't go so negative against Obama then we wouldn't be talking about this. It is she who brought all this on no one else but her. She deserves what she gets and I hope she gets lost real soon.

61. Unbelievable, Randi herself is distorting the record.
HRC's recognition about John MaCain's experiences, especially on the issue of national security, might be quite accurate. It's inapprepriate for her to say that both her and MaCain brougt their experience to the table and Obama only had a speech given in 2002. It's inapprepriate because both Obama and her are in the same family of D party.

This comes to a very sensitive area, who started the bloody theme on unity. It's Obama.

Obama has been trying so hard to push his bipartisanship and willingness to reach out to Republicans, or being a uniter. In order to play the uniter card, he mercilessly throwed his comrades under the bus:

"I don't want to go into the next election starting off with half the country already not wanting to vote for Democrats -- we've done that in 2004, 2000".

-- Obama, speech in central Iowa, on December 31, 2007

One of the way to interpret the message is that Obama believes Hillary had already lost in the 2008 election were she the nominee.

It hurt then, it hurts now. It's divisive then, it's divisive now.

Now, you all jump on this line, interpret it in your way, and then put the words in Hillary's mouth, basically saying Hillary is endorsing MaCain.

Now you people get an easy task, just going around attacking Hillary for this line, and skipping the real work, that is, telling people Obama can bring more experiences in the National Security to the table with him. Try hard to prove Hillary is wrong on this please.

As for the clip from Keith. It's another heartbroken thing around these days. This is poison we have to take. I have never realized that Keith is no difference from any partisan pandits before because my liberal stance. I always admire him for his standup against the right wing machine. But not this time when he guarded Obama for the NAFTA bulls**t.

The Canadian prime minister Stephan Harper has, via his spokeswoman Sandra Buckler, denounced the suggestion that Clinton also made same assurance to the Canadian government:

"After being asked whether Canadian officials asked for or received any briefings from a Clinton campaign representative outlining her plans on NAFTA, a spokeswoman for the prime minister offered a response Friday".

"The answer is no, they did not," said Harper spokeswoman Sandra Buckler.

65. your link is a dead one
as far as randi "distorting the record"--

we'll try another link:
"PMO: Officials only got briefing from Obama campaign
The Canadian Press
March 7, 2008 at 5:04 PM EST"

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.2008...

note the time. randi had started her show two hours before this broke. so...she wasn't exactly "distorting the record" as much as she was reporting it at that given time. wouldn't you agree?

So, have you heard any apology from either Randi or Keith on the NAFTA issue? Oh, Keith won't be on until Monday. We'll see.

Anyway, we are all human being. What am I argueing here for? If O gets the nod, I still have to vote for him.

It's difficult to be anything above animal version of human being, isn't it?

78. Randi crashed thru two barriers on Thursday and Friday --- and good for her!!!
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 03:06 AM by defendandprotect
The first one was in BEGINNING to acknowledge the need for a third party ---
though she sets it down the road, after large Dem wins, and after Dems put Humpty Dumpty
together again --- getting rid of Patriot Act, etal ---

The second was that she threw out the rule that any Dem is to sit on untruths by one candidate because it might "divide the party."

And -- good for Randi ---

We have to face a lot of things on this planet ---
and those two aren't by any means the hardest ---

Global Warming about to end our obnoxious reign on this planet ---
Watching the death of suicidal concepts like
Patriarchy and Patriarchal religions and their wars on nature, women, children --
Capitalism -- "a ridiculous King-of-the-Hill-System" ---
