I took a course in ASL, earlier this year, and get e-mails from my former teacher about ASL events, and such... She forwarded me one, inviting me to a "deaf coffee klatch," from a deaf married couple, where people get together to practice ASL and just meet-up. I hesitated, since I didn't know anyone there, but I had no excuse; it was held at the Dunkin' Donuts just a couple of miles from me. I was so glad that I went. The people were really lovely; 15 showed up, about a third of them deaf. And I sat with two really nice hearing women who interpreted for me, were there to practice signing. (I was worried, since speaking wasn't allowed...)

It's held every month and they asked me if I'll be back and I said I would. It was such a great experience. I wish that deaf people would realize that they're in great demand, LOL, since hearing people need to practice ASL... And they were all such nice people. I made a friend whose father brought her a necklace from Egypt, with her name on it, and I have one, as well. And the man who organized the group asked me if I had a sign name, offered to give me one. I was very flattered...
