DENVER -- State lawmakers have again delayed a vote on a proposal to help farmers hire temporary workers from Mexico.
A House committee held a second hearing on the bill Thursday but the chairman ended testimony after about three hours. Most of the witnesses were immigrant advocates who likened the existing federal guest worker program to indentured servitude. They don't want the state to get involved in facilitating the program.

Farmers say they need help negotiating the cumbersome federal process to get workers to arrive in Colorado on time.
The bill's sponsor, Rep. Marsha Ann Looper, said ranchers and farmers tell her they can't find enough seasonal workers. She said it is fitting for Colorado to step in and fix the problem.
