DENVER -- State lawmakers have again delayed a vote on a proposal to help farmers hire temporary workers from Mexico.

A House committee held a second hearing on the bill Thursday but the chairman ended testimony after about three hours. Most of the witnesses were immigrant advocates who likened the existing federal guest worker program to indentured servitude. They don't want the state to get involved in facilitating the program.

Farm groups who back the idea will be allowed to testify at the next hearing, which hasn't been scheduled yet.

Farmers say they need help negotiating the cumbersome federal process to get workers to arrive in Colorado on time.

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Marsha Ann Looper, said ranchers and farmers tell her they can't find enough seasonal workers. She said it is fitting for Colorado to step in and fix the problem.

1. Let me ask a question
We have prisoners getting out of jail everyday....why aren't these jobs offerred to them to get them back into society.

We have homeless people across America, why aren't they being offerred the jobs.

Why is the only answer to bring in Temporary workers? What is wrong with this picture?

Why isn't the Democratic party pushing that the Republican policies are not for the American workers?
