Security officers on strike in S.F.

Union-represented security officers at 14 office buildings in San Francisco's Financial District went on strike early Monday, protesting fruitless contract negotiations.

The guards, represented by Service Employees International Union Local 24/7, formed picket lines as early as 6 a.m. and planned a rally and march in the Financial District for 4:30 p.m. Monday.

SEIU spokeswoman Gina Bowers said some bike messengers and other building visitors are honoring the picket lines.

The security officers are employed by Securitas, ABM, Universal Protection Services and other major providers of private building security officers. The employers have been in contract negotiations with SEIU for several months.
