Negotiations have come to an end for Safeway workers in Colorado. The workers represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 ratified the company’s “last, best, and final” offer. The negotiations were heated during the nearly year long process with threats of strikes and lockouts hanging in the air. King Soopers had agreed to lockout its employees if the Safeway employees called a strike. This new contract will expire in 2013.

1. I hope they got a good deal
our contract is up in May and I am not looking forward to this at all.

The last one went okay, but that was three years ago and a different world.

2. from what some of the stewards are telling me, the contract sucks pretty much, but it's about the
best they could get. the two-tier system is still in effect, amoung other things. it was a really crappy year for contracts to expire--the corporations (safeway, kroger, albertson) basically used the crappy economy as a bludgeon.

3. Not a surprise at all
It's a year to hope you don't lose too much and I suspect that is the best you can hope for right now.

4. Albertsons closed in Omahain 2004 (New Orleans too)

Couldn't compete with non-union Target super store and Wal-mart. Safeway and Hinky Dinky left in the mid 80's. Albertsons was the last union store. We had Albertsons blue in our veins.
