The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration said a Chicago Heights firm should face $111,100 in fines after determining the company violated federal standards for workplace safety.
OSHA cited Quinco Steel Inc. after an April 15 inspection was done at the Michigan Avenue bridge construction site in Chicago where the company was providing steel erection work, the Labor Department spokesman Scott Allen said.
Allen said the company requested an informal conference with the OSHA area director to discuss the penalties. He said the meeting would happen within the next two weeks.
Quinco Steel was cited for two "willful" violations for failing to use proper fall protection while conducting steel erection activities over 15 feet and while operating an aerial lift, a Monday news release said. The violations carried $70,000 in proposed penalties. OSHA defines a willful violation as one committed with plain indifference to or intentional disregard for employee health and safety.
