Florida Postal Workers Protest Increasing Privatization Of Mail Routes - 06/29/07

Florida postal workers are outraged over plans to outsource jobs. Jesse Russell reports:

By Jesse Russell

The postal workers delivered their message against outsourcing at 16 locations across the panhandle state. The U.S. Postal Service has slowly been shifting previously held federal jobs to private firms. Private contractors have been used in the past to deliver mail, in rural areas, but the National Association of Letter Carriers say that a federal law in 2003 allows for the use of urban and suburban private letter carriers. In the South, according to numbers from the NALC, roughly a third of new routes are being contracted out. The US Postal Service is the third largest employer in the United States. The Postal Service is considered an independent establishment of the executive branch of the Government of the United States.

1. When the time comes to disjoin the United States, Florida will be
the first to go. They're already preparing us.

My heart goes out to those postal workers.

2. Yes, and they have done that out here in SoCal.
I'm in the Murrieta/Temecula Valley (inland - 1-1/2 hours north of downtown San Diego); I'm in the middle of at least one hundred thousand people, in a housing development, and they have contracted THAT out.

4. And who can they blame.....themselves because
they voted for republicans.....that ought to be the theme song in the south.
You lost your job because you voted for a republican...

5. So just as all outsourcing goes....it will be good in the beginning
but then the true realization that the outsourced company is incompetant....not held to uphold regulations...and eventually the mail delivery system in the entire country will go belly up...just like all other government organizations....

Another good organization on it's way to ruin....
