[email protected]President Barack Obama's new labor secretary found a friendly crowd at a Miami church Monday evening as she delivered the first official speech of her new job.
Hilda Solis, the daughter of a union laborer who went on to become a California congresswoman, was confirmed by the Senate on Feb. 24. She is in Miami this week to meet with labor leaders.
Monday, she spoke to more than 500 cheering union members at Greater Bethel AME Church in Overtown. The event had the air of a political victory rally, and the crowd was plainly delighted that someone from the government was finally listening to them.

Or, as the Rev. Samuel Sullivan said in his invocation: ``We waited eight years, and God, you kept your word and gave us a change!''
National AFL-CIO President John Sweeney introduced Solis.
''She is the only labor secretary in recent memory from a working family, union background,'' said Sweeney, who is in town for the labor group's winter meeting.
