Yelm Wal-Mart shoppers will have two greeters on their weekend trips to the super center, the usual store greeters and picketers at the parking lot entrances.

The picketers, employees of United Food and Commercial Workers Union in Tacoma, have one message -- Wal-Mart is below area standards.

Allison Butka from United Food and Commercial Workers Union tells Wal-Mart shoppers that the store is “below area standards.”

Their mission is to change and redirect spending to other stores to promote a higher wage standard.

“It’s just a race to the bottom for all the other companies,” said Amelia Yankey, UFCW picketer.

“We’re just trying to make people realize you work hard for your money and it matters where you spend it.”

Union Organizer Gary Lyle said wages and benefits for Wal-Mart employees are lowering the standard pay for similar job positions at other stores, which burdens taxpayers.
