ENFIELD — - The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of a construction worker from Killingly who died Thursday night after he fell from the fourth floor of a Hampton Inn being built on Phoenix Avenue, police said.

Brian Millett, 54, of the Dayville section of Killingly, was working inside an elevator shaft around 7 p.m. between the fourth and fifth floors when he fell to the bottom, said Deputy Chief Anjo Timmerman.

He said no other workers saw Millett fall, but some were on the fifth floor at the time. The first officer to respond administered first aid until paramedics arrived. Millett was conscious and talking to emergency personnel on the scene before being airlifted to the hospital.

Millett was taken by Life Star helicopter to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where he died from his injuries, police said.

OSHA was notified of the incident Thursday, Timmerman said.

John Chavez, a spokesman for OSHA, said Benderson Development Co. LLC, of Latham, N.Y., is the general contractor building the hotel. He said OSHA is investigating the incident, but he had no information about Millett's employment.
