Flight Attendants Settle on Cuts

The union representing Northwest Airlines flight attendants tentatively agreed to $195 million in pay and benefits cuts, averting a potential strike by the only major union that had not accepted the carrier's efforts to reduce labor costs. Other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The deal requires approval by rank-and-file flight attendants, who voted down tentative agreements twice last year.
Union Ratifies Tire Contracts

The United Steelworkers union said it ratified contracts with Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, covering 5,200 workers at eight plants.

The contracts include a schedule for closing one plant but provide for investments in three factories.

Applebee's Says It Has Offers

Applebee's International said it received several offers after putting itself up for sale in February and added activist investors Richard Breeden and Laurence Harris as directors to end a proxy fight. The company will enter a second round of discussions before asking bidders to submit their proposals.

A search for a possible buyer began after Breeden Capital Management, which owns 5.2 percent of Applebee's shares, nominated four candidates to the board in December and called the company's stock performance a "disaster."
