SAN FRANCISCO (Thomson Financial) - The United Steelworkers Union said Monday it has reached a tentative agreement with DomTar Corp., to be voted on by 4,000 members on May 7.

The proposed umbrella master agreement includes a successorship clause that protects workers' jobs and contracts if a Domtar facility is sold, the union said.

'If ratified, provides job and economic security for our members in a time of constant change within the paper industry,' said USW International President Leo Gerard in a statement.

U.S.-listed shares of Montreal-based Domtar, a maker of uncoated freesheet paper, papergrade, fluff, and specialty pulp, were up a penny at $6.30.
