2. Could we follow the Iroquois model ??
Someone once told me that in the Iroquois nations, the women are the only ones who can vote for a war chief - the theory being that they wouldn't vote for someone who would send their sons to war willy-nilly.

The Iroquois Nations were/are a confederation of Native American tribes from the upstate NY regions (centered around Syracuse) and I understand they were a very sophisticated and peaceful society.

I've also heard that the guts of our constitution was derived from their system of government. Don't know if either of these things are true, but it seems plausible.
