Sy Hersch on Ed Schultz Now!!! 3:37 p.m. discussing Iran
Edited on Tue Apr-11-06 02:38 PM by FLDem5
http://www.620kpoj.com/pages/listenlive.html

He said people are already in Iran to "paint" lasers for laser guided missiles. I don't understand how that works.

He said these are men (his sources) who don't scare easy, but they are scared.

1. he said he is worried about Iran striking back by taking out
oil pipelines.

This would double up or triple up the price of oil. This would send us into a recession.

if this bombing takes place. But it will be a huge problem.

16. With Our Trade Imbalance, Petrocollapse Is A Possibility
- China/Japan etc. stops recycling dollars, using these dollars to buy high priced oil.

- Interest rates will skyrocket, dollar value will crash as dollars are dumped to pay for oil.

- Problems ensue paying for our imported 65% of oil consumption.

- Rinse, reverberate, repeat.

- Petrocollapse.

5. Sure
Even Christopher Hitchens, that well-known drunken rightwingnut, wrote a long piece in Vanity Fair a couple of years back about the burgeoning, and politically liberal, youth movement in Iran.

I'm afraid Hersh is right on the money with this.

Fuckface doesn't give a rat's ass what he does to America, as long as his backers are making their money.

$9 a gallon gas by year's end.

8. that scares the shit out of me.
I have been biking with my youngest son - I have him up to 4 miles. Today I realised that if I got a basket on my bike, I could bike to the grocery store every day for small items and just drive once a week for the "big" buy.

I had thought, "that is a great way to help the environment." Huh. I may NEED to now, because I won't be able to afford the food if I have to pay that much for fuel.

25. Not to be contrary, assuming the deliveries of food won't be
interrupted by fuel shortages and/or price, what kind of mark-up on the food do you suppose there will be as the price of fuel will be calculated into it?

26. there is little to nothing in stores that is not trucked in
so all prices will go up.

On the supply - I live in Florida, where they farm pretty much year round, so there is local produce available - and I even know a local rancher (I am a vegetarian, but my family is not). So we would eat - but I shudder to think what would happen up north in winter.

Those Friendly Iranians

Indeed, many Iranians seem convinced that the U.S. military ventures in Afghanistan and Iraq are going great, and they say this with more conviction than your average White House spokesman.

One opinion poll showed that 74 percent of Iranians want a dialogue with the U.S. — and the finding so irritated the authorities that they arrested the pollster. Iran is also the only Muslim country I know where citizens responded to the 9/11 attacks with a spontaneous candlelight vigil as a show of sympathy.

Iran-U.S. relations are now headed for a crisis over Tehran's nuclear program, which appears to be so advanced that Iran could produce its first bomb by the end of next year. The Bush administration is right to address this issue, but it needs to step very carefully to keep from inflaming Iranian nationalism and uniting the population behind the regime. We need to lay out the evidence on satellite television programs that are broadcast into Iran, emphasizing that the regime is squandering money on a nuclear weapons program that will further isolate Iranians and damage their economy.

Left to its own devices, the Islamic revolution is headed for collapse, and there is a better chance of a strongly pro-American democratic government in Tehran in a decade than in Baghdad. The ayatollahs' best hope is that hard-liners in Washington will continue their inept diplomacy, creating a wave of Iranian nationalism that bolsters the regime — as happened to a lesser degree after President Bush put Iran in the axis of evil.

7. I don't understand. If that's true, isn't Sy Hersch compromising
National Security by writing about it? I mean, how hard will it be now for Iranians to find those people, or at least check out what they are doing and stop it?

Something is very weird about this story. No one in the Bush administration has thrashed Sy Hersch the way they usually would.

Maybe it means that Bush is finished, or maybe Sy Hersch is being fed information to psyche the Iranians.

As far as the Iranians go, I'm beginning to think their president is a plant. Either that, or he wants the US to strike Iran ~

few American POWs on live TV to change completely the terms of the debate.

20. After Abu Ghraib and its ilk, I no longer "support our troops".
I now only support those who resist. Sorry if that makes me a "Fifth Column Element" (to quote one of the Nazi goons recently).

They're the ones who turned it into a sports metaphor, with their stadia filled with ass-wipes chanting "USA, USA" while our bombs rained down on Afghan peasants and Iraqi children. So I don't support the U.S. Air Force which kills terrorists disguised as peasants and terrorists disguised as children from the safe altitude of >5,000 feet.

And, if the SUV-drivin American middle class won't stop BFEE from attacking Iran, I'm going to root for the underdog.

11. No - he is compromising the lives of the operatives that are there
but, think about it - do you really think Iran, with this pissing match they are engaging in, hasn't already supposed this.

I think the leaks are turning into streams because this crazy-assed commander-in-chief is scaring the big brass now.

22. I probably didn't word that very well. I am amazed that there is no
huge reaction to Sy Hersch's reporting. That the right are not calling him a traitor, that Bush isn't out there demanding an investigation into the 'leakers' the way he was re the NSA leaks.

They are remarkably silent on this ~ that's why I find it strange ~

You may be right in your last sentence. This is the military finding a way to get the news out and to stop him, but still, why no real reaction from the Bush administration and a demand to find whoever is leaking this information.

Murtha confirmed that Congress has been discussing it also. Is this just a big scare tactic to force Iran to give in? Because if it is, apparently it isn't working ~

13. I think it refers to marking target sites ahead of time in a way that
laser guided bombs can be guided straight toward them.

One thing I am very, very sure of..... and that is that * is possessed by a messianic complex, and he thinks he is the ONLY person on the planet that God intends to have this power.

Another thing I am sure of is that these people around *, pulling his strings, will have to be forcibly removed from power.

And one more thing seems clearer to me by the day.... the honorable members of the US military, in their oath to protect and defend the US Constitution, will be called upon very soon to uphold their promise.

17. lasers can point the way for a large weapon
the weapon follows the laser beam right down to the target. It's a very accurate method.
Hersh also said there are many Pentagon people who will resign if the tactical nuke option isn't taken back off the option table.
He said that Iran has the missiles to target oil facilities in many nearby countries and that would hit us where it really hurts.
OMFG........ this is beyond insane.

Scared the crap out of me. Said Iran would retaliate likely with strikes to Dubai and Qatar with oil used as an weapon, cripple US economy with gas $8-$10 gal., recession/depression.

Thing is, this could all happen in about a week!

31. I listened to this
and thought this is OBL's goal. Bankrupting and destroying ourselves economically through war. Iran's targets for their medium range missiles may not be Israel at all instead the oil fields, pipelines, refineries, and ports of the Persian Gulf and ME. Oil prices will be incredible to say the least. They are confident. This is their card. It can be done.
