Umm...Where does Bush have authority to attack Iran?
Is he couching it in the Executive's war-making powers?

Shouldn't we be making a stink about this? Writing Congressmen, Senators, marching? demonstrating?

This is bullshit.

3. I believe that....
the Bushies have all ready answered this question and are claiming the Congressional resolution for invading Iraq includes the broader picture of Bush's so called "war on terror", so in their wacky thinking, the Bushies feel he all ready has all the authorization he needs.

5. not only strike, but go nuclear!
because he says he can. Uh, has anyone bothered to rein the guy in so far?......

<snip>

A proposed change in U.S. nuclear weapons policy has exploded into a controversy between the Bush Administration and physicists worldwide. Sixteen faculty members of the MIT physics department have joined over a thousand physicists in signing a petition repudiating a Pentagon proposal that would “foresee pre-emptive nuclear strikes against non-nuclear adversaries.”

Kim Griest and Jorge Hirsch, two UCSD physics professors who started the petition in September, claim a change in the March 2005 Doctrine for Joint Nuclear Operations “crosses a line … and heightens the probability of future use of nuclear weapons by others.” The petition can be viewed online at http://physics.ucsd.edu/petition/.

“Remember the Greek myth about Cassandra. Before every major disaster, there’s always someone who warns of it and gets ignored,” Professor Max E. Tegmark, a signatory, said in an e-mail. “This has the same feel to it. We scientists clearly have a responsibility to speak up.”

The petition, which has been signed by 1,061 physicists worldwide as of yesterday, includes 2004 Nobel Laureate Frank Wilczek, 1990 Nobel Laureate Jerome I. Friedman, and 2005 Wolf Prize Laureate Daniel Kleppner from MIT.

“I believe strongly that the current Administration’s reversals of long-standing agreements and policies regarding nuclear weapons is short-sighted, self-defeating, and incredibly dangerous,” wrote Professor David I. Kaiser, a signatory, historian of science, and physicist, in an e-mail. “It is astonishing to me that after having learned so much about the incredible destructiveness of nuclear weapons over the past sixty years, some politicians today would seriously consider making their pre-emptive use part of this nation’s stated military and political policy.”

6. Where are the Democrats on this?
Even if attacking Iran was a good idea (and I don't think it is), we're already fully committed in Iraq.

I hope some of our Senators start speaking out about this. I just heard a report on NPR about how the planning for an attack is underway. There was an excerpt quoting Bush about how Iran is threatening our ally Israel and that we'll never permit Iran to use nuclear weapons on Israel. This shit is getting pretty deep. First Sy Hersh reported it. Now we're hearing about it from Joseph Cerincinoni (sp?) on NPR.

9. Where are the Republicans on this?
Since we know Bush doesn't listen to Democrats, where are the patriotic Republicans calling on him to STFU and start using diplomacy.

For that matter, why isn't his father (the Earthly one) calling for him to resign - - first privately, and if that doesn't work, then publicly?

I call on Bush 41 to ask for Bush 43's resignation.

have no control over Bush and his gang of thugs.

11. Many of them have considerable influence with the media and with their
constituents.

The media hasn't tagged them as malcontents, cronic complainers or Bush haters.

realize that GWB won't help them get--and doesn't even care if--they get re-elected.

15. Dems Onboard for Iran "Regime change"
Most of the Democrats in the U.S. House have already been suckered into the warmongering against Iran.

Don't forget the Iraq Liberation Act that Bush referred to constantly as a justification for war and to claim "bipartisan support" for the unprovoked attack on Iraq.

Tell your Congressperson to drop co-sponsorhip of H.R.282, the Iran Freedom Act.
Title: To hold the current regime in Iran accountable for its threatening behavior and to support a transition to democracy in Iran.

Here is a list of the current co-sponsors and when they added their names.

12. It comes out of this
When he's completely lost the military, he's gone

BUSH THINKS ALL HE HAS TO DO IS DECLARE WAR AND THE RANKS WILL LINE UP BEHIND HIM. I DON'T THINK IT'S GONNA WORK FOR HIM THIS TIME. THE ARMY ISN'T HIS TOY

Reports Show Growing Military Discontent With Bush and Rumsfeld
by leveymg
Sat Mar 25, 2006 at 12:23:37 PM PDT
The wave of public discontent by U.S. military leaders and rank-and-file troops with Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld continues to grow.

News accounts show an emerging consensus at all levels within the American armed forces opposing the Administration's Iraq and torture policies. This comes at a time that President Bush indicated that US forces will remain in Iraq at least until the end of his own Presidency.

Discontent among American troops in Iraq bodes ill for any plans by the White House to expand the war to Iran.

The U.S. Military Will Not Go to War With Iran for Bush
by leveymg
Fri Mar 17, 2006 at 02:24:17 PM PDT
Don't fight wars you can't win.

That's the bitter lesson of Vietnam; it was the mantra of the U.S. military until the Bush Administration took power and changed it to, "Attack first, plan later". The old doctrine was codified as the so-called Powell Doctrine, which is back in vogue at the Pentagon after its most recent demonstration in Iraq.

In just five years, the unthinkable has become real. That includes both the threat of a nuclear war in the Persian Gulf or that a sort of legal coup might overthrow this Administration.

The fact is, Bush-Cheney screwed the military so badly in Iraq, that the Pentagon brass, along with the CIA, decided in 2004 to bump the Admininistration rather than being dragged into a far more disasterous adventure in Iran. The Joint Chiefs of Staff joined the CIA in referring the Plame case and the Larry Franklin OSP-AIPAC spy case to the Justice Dept., effectively crippling neocon ambitions for "regime change" in Tehran.

The war drums we hear now are part of large disinformation campaign intended to keep Iran off balance while we withdraw from Iraq.

16. The War Powers Act requires consultation with Congress
SEC. 3.
The President in every possible instance shall consult with Congress before introducing United States Armed Forces into hostilities or into situation where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances, and after every such introduction shall consult regularly with the Congress until United States Armed Forces are no longer engaged in hostilities or have been removed from such situations.

This is no emergency. He legally can't simply order a bombing under these circumstances.

20. "Consult" is unfortunately as vague...
...as "advise and consent." A Congress as timid as this one, bought and paid for by the same interests who want *'s war, won't hold a President accountable.

The short answer, then, is that Congress is ceding its authority. Any sensible long answer must acknowledge that we have failed to demand that they assert their authority, which is ultimately our own.

17. There ya go, spreading facts...
Thanks for bringing it up. The Commander In Chief can send in forces. Once they need to be resupplied, Congress needs to enter into the issue as THEY have the check book. Basically, the junta has been holding our military personnel for ransom. They commit troops to battle and Congress has to write the checks of face being labeled as anti-troop.

Answer to the problem: Elect congress critters with back bone and thicker skin to stand up to the junta. The military brass will see who is REALLY in charge and make wise choices.

23. Bush will just change the law to fit his agenda again & again
Edited on Sun Apr-09-06 05:32 PM by MODemocrat
For someone who doesn't know much about anything else, he sure does know how to "re-make" the laws to fit his crimes. Who's going to stop him? Absolutely no one. W. does what he want to do, and if we don't like it, he'll just tell us to go to hell and go plowing through like a bulldozer.

He's absolutely drunk with power, and completely out of control. He will never stop until he self-destructs. He's been this way since he was a kid, and he's not going to change now. His actions are much like a drug addict's, or a town drunk!   :hangover: :hangover:
