2. We're a pretty small town. Including Ft. Wainwright,

Eielson Air Force Base and the rest of the borough (county) we still only have 80,000 folks. Until Iraq, you never heard of a combat death on Ft. Wainwright. Not even during Viet Nam, although I am sure there must have been a few.

In the last year, we've lost 10. All 172nd Stryker Brigade.

So tomorrow I'll be sending the base commander another small bouquet for the soldier's unit (when the details are available). As it's a "closed" base, it's easier to send the florist out than take them myself, and most of the memorial ceremonies are limited, which is understandable.
