It won't work. . .
the GOP is playing with a new trial ballon: scare the voters by saying if you elect Dems in 2006 they will impeach Bush, they will have subpoena power over Bush blah blah.

How does that help them? The first thing people will think is: "Why would they impeach Bush." The second thing they will think is: "Oh yeah, he lied about WMD." Then they will think of all the other things Bush has done that might be impeachable.

It will also make people think: "Oh yeah, it was awful when you impeached Clinton." They won't say: "Yeah, impeachment was awful when you did it so I'll vote for you."

It will only cause the electorate to think about the bad things the GOP has been up to, not the positive (as if).
Are Americans that dumb?

Why are they even thinking this would work?

Am I the only one who thinks "vote for me and I'll let the guy you hate start more stupid wars if he wants" is a terminally stupid campaign slogan?

2. In fact...
...a lot of my family members who are Conservative are now going to vote for Dems in the *hopes* that they will impeach Bush.

Then again, my uncles and Grandfather are conservatives, not neo-con jack-asses (yes, there is a difference, LOL!) so I can see them doing this. I may disagree with them politically, but they are nice people and it makes me cringe to think that others associate them with Dubya and his crowd. (No, they did not vote for him the last time around, went 3rd party).

3. I think they are floating a lot of trial balloons
To make sure they get a good one that explains how they retained power in the 06 election with the polls at such a low point.
So after the election they can say "See demos should have gone after the NasCar Dad and turned right in there direction.

5. a lot of americans dont think like you. they didnt like the impeachment

of clinton, regardless of the distaste for his action. ergo his heavy support, but by 2000 clinton fatigue. they will only see the impeachment of bush, the next president after an impeachment as a common occurance, instead of holding off impeachment for the most extreme offensive

no i dont think a lot of people will want to go down the road of impeachment.

i know that contradicts what many feel on this board. oh well. i just dont think it will sit well with the people, and i dont think that is what dems should run on. a majority for dems will allow impeachment proceedings to begin. more, bush and repugs have failed every step of way, time to replace them sounds like a better campaign approach.

6. I don't advocate running on it, I'm just saying neither should the GOP
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 09:36 AM by Hamlette
and people didn't like the Clinton impeachment because they don't think he got a fair shake, that he was being unfairly treated, AND his approval rating was high throughout his second term (unlike Bush).

I was just saying I think it is a stupid campaign slogan for the GOP to run on. I do agree we should not run on it. We are better off saying they have failed at everything.
