Howard Dean just told it like it is -- again -- on CNN
Edited on Sun Jan-08-06 12:58 PM by Armstead
Howard Dean on CNN Late Edition just directly countered all the GFOP talking points being thrown at him by Wolfie Blitzer.

he said that NOT ONE Democrat had taken money directly from Abramoff. He also defended those who took money from his clients, saying that was not part of this scandal.

he also blasted Alito, linking his gong back n a promise to not rule on cases involving a venture fund he was involved with. "Washington is filled with scandal, and Americans don't want to see that on the Supreme Court too.

Wolfie let out a huge sigh at the end of the interview.

Democrats need Dean.

51. Yeah . I loved it when he sighed and ...
said unfortunately we've run out of time. They ran out of time for his shielding of the bush crime family. He thought Dean was going to back down, and I thought I would see that hemming and hawing that most of the dems always do. I loved it!

Wolf knew he was beaten. It was priceless.

It will surely be posted online soon.

Dean was razor sharp. Said the Dems are not involved with Abramoff (and pointed out that the other side wants them to be).

43. When Wolf countered that Dems took money from Abramoff clients,
they took money from Indian Tribes who where the victims of Abramoff's scam. The tribes were NOT agents of Jack Abramoff and he has seen Nothing that has ever said that the Indians gave the money to Dems because Abramoff told them too.

In fact, the Newsweek article out today has an e-mail from Abramoff saying how stupid some of the Indian Tribes donations were - I'm sure he meant the ones to the Democrats. (Dean didn't mention that part).

Dean was Great! What he said should be the Talking Point for all the Dems.

27. great stuff...and the LONG pause after Dean's first statement
when Wolf had NO IDEA what to say in follow up...then tried with the "Dems took money from related activities/organizations" statement.

What you see in this short clip is what has happened to the media. Wolf had no idea how to question Dean on his statement because he doesn't have the skills to interview anyone and he didn't have his facts right. They are all just pretty boys.

...mealy mouthed answers and expressions of doubt or shame?

Someone making unequivocal, absolute statements grounded in principle and confident knowledge of the truth?! What had the world come to?

Wolf closed with "Howard Dean, blunt as always" -- Delivered as an insult (perhaps with a tinge of respect?)

Blunt -- adj. Abrupt and often disconcerting frank in speech.

Wolf was certainly disconcerted!

The less derogatory synonyms include candid, explicit, forthright, frank, matter-of-fact, outspoken, plain-spoken.

Sounds pretty good to me.

I agree with you, this is the only way to counter their spin. Just say it plain and simple. No finessing the issue. "No democrat took Abramoff money!" Period. End of story.

Like Dean, they can cite the FEC findings as proof. They must label the RW spin as a LIE.

25. We should take to the streets and demand that elected Dems follow
the lead of Dr. Dean. This is one in a series of interviews I have seen him on over the last year that he is absolutely contemptuous *contemptuous* of the idiotic Rethug talking points -- he swats them away like flies and openly ridicules them with his tone alone -- but uses words that rebut the "substantive points" directly. Absolutely sweet.

We have to have to have to demand that the rest of the Dems do the same. From Daschle's book, from Kerry's open-mike "...these liars, you know..." comments during the election season, we do have a fairly good inkling that they do get it at some level that these are desperate frauds that are controlling the reins of the government these days; but for some godforsaken reason they are often too timid to confront that head-on.

After all, even though the corporate media spins it crazily into the thug domain, Dean does do the swatting fairly civilly -- so if the elected Dems are hesitating because it is impolite, Dean is showing them how to do it too. Of course, he must have good practise as a physician delivering the bad news directly yet gently. But the elected Dems can take a course from him on bed-side manners, so to speak :-)

...by funding this unprecedented organizing strategy with small monthly donations from ordinary Americans, the Democracy Bonds community provides a sharp contrast to the the insidious Republican culture of corruption that has recently begun to unravel. We saw in court filings this week how Republican leaders raise money: in exchange for putting statements in the Congressional Record, or granting federal contracts, or expensive golf trips to Scotland.

Dean broke records in fundraising this week, and now his style of "tellin it like it is" is serving our party very well. We need his blunt/direct/simple/take no prisoners approach to what we are currently facing. Dean has been vindicated in his remarks about the war/Saddam/corruption in Washington etc. Indeed we do need Howard Dean!

66. Another Fine Example as to Why We Need Dr. Dean!
Watched! Thanks, Howard Dean. You were great.

It was nice to see Wolfie stammer for words. Dean left him speechless, literally.

70. Shows the problem with the Presstitutes
Even if Wolfe believes he had to give the "other side" for "balance," he should have done his damn homework about the Democratic contributions instead of just repeating the GOP talking points.

That's the problem with the media culture today. Instead of actually reporting, they just repeat the same old shit, creating a giant fedback loop.

That's also why the Dean approach is so important. Dems have to counter directly the lies, to break that dang loop.
