Document: FBI Monitored Cars Near War Protest Rally

DENVER -- The FBI recorded the license plate numbers of a dozen vehicles spotted "in the vicinity of" a Denver bookstore where anti-war demonstrators gathered before a rally, according to an agency document released by the American Civil Liberties Union Tuesday.

"This report raises more questions about the degree to which the FBI is unjustifiably regarding demonstrations and public dissent as potential terrorism," said Mark Silverstein, legal director of the ACLU in Colorado. "Why is the FBI conducting surveillance of a bookstore, monitoring the persons who gather there, and keeping files with lists of license plate numbers?"

The ACLU obtained the FBI report under the Freedom of Information Act.

3. It's high time that each protester to carry his/her own video camera.

The best medicine for these FASCISTS is to capture their ways on video camera and then disseminate the video to the media and online. Also, I would advocate publishing the addresses and other public information for each stormtrooper.

Let's see how they like it when we fight tyrrany using their own methods against them.

4. Why would this be a surprise to anyone? The FBI has a LONG...

...history of spying on protesters of any kind. Think about J. Edgar Hoover and his secret files...and how long it took for him to collect that information.

Just because he died, doesn't mean the FBI stopped collecting "data".

been watching as long as I've been alive, big brother I mean. All those TV shows showing the FBI as a super investigator solving crimes the locals cannot, is just so much eyewash.

The truth is, the FBI was established to subvert the political process to keep the wealthy and powerful in control and the FBI's primary purpose is still to subvert democratic processes that would allow the people to take control of their own destiny, away from the wealthy and powerful. And it's still being used politically.

It's a federal police force designed to subvert 'The Peoples' will.

I know what I say will be labeled as 'radical'. But when the scales fall away, whats left is seeing things as they are, not as we want them.

9. And while they're spying on anti-war PEACEFUL protesters ...

how many real threats -- from terrorists or just plain, old-fashioned criminals -- are they ignoring? That's what I want to know.

But, the FBI has always had fascist leanings. I remember a friend of mine who was Native American telling me how when she and her family would go to larger gatherings, they would look out where their cars were parked and see white guys taking down license plate numbers.
