The Blue Planet on Discovery tonight.
With all the crap docs on Discovery these days, it would be nice if they would mention that this one was done by David Attenborough for PBS.

2. What struck me

Was that a few minutes ago, the teaser for the next episide called it "our" series, The Blue Planet. Which, as you mentioned, is a crock of shit.

Although, originally, wasn't it a BBC series? That is what is on the DVD series. (My husband hearts David Attenborough, and we own every series he's done that is out on DVD, and he has a couple in VHS that were taped off the TV.)

5. I think it was a joint BBC/Discovery production
the two have close relations - Discovery owns BBC America for example.

Regards Attenborough, his latest series "Life In The Undergrowth" was excellent and is currently available on DVD over here (PAL, Region 2) if you want to import it:

6. Yes - originally shown in the USA by Discovery
Production Companies

* British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)

Distributors

* British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) (2001) (UK) (TV) (original airing)
* The Discovery Channel (2001) (USA) (TV) (original US airing)

So people's memories are misfiring. Poor old Discovery - they show a good series, and people still credit PBS for it!

4. It's a series on the oceans and the life in them. The thing that's great
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 08:21 PM by Marr
is that it's all shot in an artistic way, rather than the usual (clinical) documentary style. It's really a great series.

7. I'd recommend it unreservedly
Real science and breathtaking imagery. Even bible-thumpering ID-ers will be awestruck into silence by the richness and variety of the sea. Even though it can only scratch the surface of a subject of marine biology.

9. We saw it several years ago
It's one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. I very much recommend it. (Some of the imagery is not appropriate for kids, however.)
