Now it's official : the Easter War has broken out
St. Paul City Office Boots Easter Bunny Thu Mar 23, 9:31 AM ET

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Easter Bunny has been sent packing at St. Paul City Hall.

A toy rabbit, pastel-colored eggs and a sign with the words "Happy Easter" were removed from the lobby of the City Council offices, because of concerns they might offend non-Christians.

A council secretary had put up the decorations. They were not bought with city money.

St. Paul's human rights director, Tyrone Terrill, asked that the decorations be removed, saying they could be offensive to non-Christians.

But City Council member Dave Thune says removing the decorations went too far, and he wonders why they can't celebrate spring with "bunnies and fake grass."

10. The bunny may be a pagan symbol, but it is also associated with Easter
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 06:33 PM by lindisfarne
and was put up in the context of Easter. As a pagan symbol or as a Christian symbol, it does amount to a religious symbol being posted in a government office.

A picture of wild bunnies that was kept up year round would not be a religious symbol.

2. I daresay that some Christians would find that offensive too.
Many of them get quite upset at being reminded of the Pagan origins of Easter.

4. Removing a secular Easter display of pagan symbols is ridiculous. Geez.
I wouldn't be offended. I like Pagans. ;)

7. "I wonder what the Church of the Holy Bunny is saying"
They're probably busy singing their favorite "hymn":
Here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail,
Hippity hoppity,
Easter's on its way

Bringin' ev'ry girl and boy
A basketful of Easter joy
Things to make your Easter
Bright and gay

;)

12. I'd be ok with it if the bunny was
dressed like a pirate and wearing a star of david. Me, I'm celebrating with meatballs.
