Why is "opposition to war" something that calls for "blame"?

I remember when people were proud to be opposed to war.

And what has heartened me most of all, over the past six months, is that opposition to the war is not confined to Democrats. Pat Buchanan, no less, describes it as " the worst disaster in American political history... the worst mistake certainly in my lifetime." ( http://www.mclaughlin.com/library/transcript.asp?id=496 )

Now, when Democrats rail against Bush, that's to be expected. The hatred of one's enemies is a compliment. But the contempt of those who should be one's natural allies... that is something to be feared.
