School Cancels Diversity Day Over 'Ex-Gay' Demands
School Cancels Diversity Day Over 'Ex-Gay' Demands

(Viroqua, Wisconsin) For the second time Viroqua High School has cancelled Diversity Day after conservative Christians balked at the inclusion of gay speakers.

The day, held every two years for juniors and seniors, was to have been held on Thursday as a opportunity to promote diversity in the community.

Speakers were to have included representatives of the African American, Latino, Jewish, Muslim, native American and gay communities.

But, Liberty Counsel, a Florida-based public interest law firm that regularly fights LGBT civil rights issues notified the school that it represented Pastor Don Greven of Bad Axe Lutheran Church and Charles Lind, grandfather of a Viroqua High senior who were concerned that representatives of the so-called ex-gay movement or other Christians opposed to homosexuality were not invited to speak.

Liberty Counsel, in a fax to the school, obtained by the La Crosse Tribune, warned that if Diversity Day went on the school could face legal action.

6. For the umpteenth time...
THESE ARE NOT CHRISTIANS!!! These are maniacs that cloak bigotry, hatred and evil in a cloak of twisted permutations of what Christianity is SUPPOSED to be.

2. Foaming-at-the-mouth lunatics must be represented, too!
After all, you don't know how many high school graduates want to be come drooling, pants-shitting idiots, and if you don't offer their point of view on Diversity Day, you're doing a disservice to all the students.

If it weren't for the money it would cost the school district, I'd dare these craven little worms to sue.

18. Would the school allow the Klan to be represented?
Of course not! No difference.. and everyone needs to start standing up to these people and voicing this.

4. So, let me get this straight (no pun intended)
You can't have gay speakers who would advocate "tolerance" (I hate that word) for gays, unless you have "ex-gay" speakers who would advocate . . . that it's ok to be intolerant of gays because they don't have to be gay?

I don't get it.

8. If ex-gays really are straight, then inviting them...
...to Diversity Day would be nonsensical.

10. With that logic then the KKK and Aryan Nation would be invited, as well.
If they are to take that ridiculous argument, then representatives of those that denounce and hate people who are not caucasian would have to be able to attend, as well.

And kudos to VHS for intending to include gay/lesbian representation in their Diversity Day. When asked to attend company-sponsored "diversity" events/training, if gay/lesbian perspective is not included I ask why.

I'm not exactly what one would call an activist, but I've had it "up to here" with so-called diversity issues being classified as strictly racial/ethnic or relgious. If institutions are going to tout commitment to diversity, they had better mean it or I'm making them explain to me precisely why gay/lesbian diversity issues are not included. At the very least, it's fun to watch the presenters squirm when challeneged on this.

19. Host a Fringe Fanatic Day
Invite all the fringe groups to speak to differentiate them from the mainstream thought on diversity. You'd need a pick-up load of popcorn for that event.
