"Are Democrats Soft on Child Rapists?"
So I'm at work this morning and the boss has to have his daily fix of RW talk radio and it Mike Gallager talking to a Republican senator from Ohio about an admitted child rapist getting only probation. Personally I think it's horrifying to think he only got probation, but the story continues. The senator says they're trying to remove the judge who only gave the man probation but the Democrats won't support the bill. Gallager then says one of the most discusting things I've ever heard, "Why are the democrats blocking this, are they soft on child rapists too?" He did say it shouldn't be a political issue but that the Dems have made it that. I was seething red when I heard this unfortunately not a lot I could do to shut it off.

4. To be fair...
The UAE wasn't buying the ports but rather buying a controling interest the British company who holds the contract for conducting daily port operations. The ports would still be owned by U.S. companies and guarded by U.S. agents (for all that's worth).

5. Sounds like a lot of crap to me.
I know many Democrats and none of them are soft on child rapist. I am sure this has nothing to do with being a Democrat or a Republican. I am also sure that there is more to the story than we learn from the news media.

9. This story is a travesty....and this judge should be removed...
He let an admitted pedophile walk because he didn't want to ruin his life....

This judge has a criminal record of something like 10 DUI's and he was busted for cocaine....

He is soft on all forms of Rape....If he is a Democrat that's tragic...

The Democrats would be fools not to call for his removal......he is a disgrace....and incompetent!!

10. Well, not knowing the full facts of the case, I'd guess they are making
hay by mentioning the party affiliation. The judge may have legal justification, or he may be an idiotic ass--but it seems to me by EMPHASIZING the political party of a judicial official, there's something "cultural" going on here--ya can't win on policy, grab a hold of any straw that is attached to a cultural issue, and smear an entire party with it.

Of course, let's not talk about GOP justices who give a Presidency away....or use penis pumps in court....

Does anyone need a refresher on the latter story? Here ya go: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0121051judge1.html

JANUARY 21--The Oklahoma judge who was forced from the bench last year for using a penis pump in court (among other really gross acts) was charged yesterday with indecent exposure for his judicial indiscretions. Donald Thompson, 58, entered a not guilty plea yesterday to three felony counts during an appearance in Creek County District Court, where he worked until resigning last August. According to the below yucky probable cause affidavit, Thompson exposed himself during three separate 2003 cases (two of which were murder trials). For example, on May 13, while he was presiding over State v. Kurt Arnold Vomberg (who was accused of killing his girlfriend's 21-month-old daughter), Thompson loudly pumped himself up. Two court employees told investigators that they saw Thompson (pictured in the mug shot at right) attach the suction device to his penis, while five jurors reported hearing whooshing sounds, which they thought were coming from either a bicycle pump, blood pressure cuff, or an air cushion on the judge's chair. After a January 7 search of Thompson's former courtroom and chambers yielded items that tested positive for seminal fluid, investigators secured a search warrant to obtain a DNA sample from the ex-jurist. During testimony last year before the Council on Judicial Complaints, Thompson denied masturbating on the bench, using the penis pump, or depositing urine or semen into a wastebasket under his bench. Thompson's demise was triggered by a complaint filed against him last June by the Oklahoma Attorney General, who sought to oust the jurist for a variety of illicit behavior, which the AG detailed in a removal petition. Along with using the penis pump, Thompson also allegedly shaved and oiled his private parts, according to accounts given to state investigators by a clerk, trial witnesses, and a court reporter. If convicted of the indecent exposure counts, Thompson could face a maximum of 10 years in prison on each charge.

13. Joe Scarborough seems to be pounding that drum quite a bit.
I really don't like the judicial review that people like Scarborough are conducting on the airwaves. I think you could make a case to impeach every judge in this country based on hindsight. Too bad the judge presiding over the Lori Klausutis case wasn't tougher on crime....

15. The Republicans might have attached something to the bill.
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 12:54 PM by LoZoccolo
Since it's a right-wing talk show, the guy gets to say as little as he wants about this bill. The Republicans may have attached something really bad to the bill, something they wanted but wouldn't pass otherwise, just so they could have the talking point that the Democrats are soft on child rape if they don't vote for it. We really don't know anything about the bill other than that which the talk show guy says.

17. I've heard that
Something about Vermont blocking a bill that would have imposed harsher sentencing for sex offenders. Becasue it was in Vermont is why they are blaming Democrats.

This soft punishment for child sex crimes seems to be a common problem across most of the country. Why can we not get this fixed and actually put these people in prison for longer than a year. Child rapists and sex offenders are one of the highest repeat offender categories.

18. You mean like Giordono?
(some spelling errors may occur in the name) The Repuke who was soliciting a woman to have sex with her two pre-teen daughters?

Or maybe Bill O'Reilly, who wrote a novel with the the fantasy about having a BJ from a 15-year old?

Clinton didn't rape anybody, let alone a child . . .
