Feingold, A Peculiar Politician - embarrassment to senate, hero to...
the republic

'Senator Russ Feingold is an embarrassment to the US Senate, which makes him an authentic hero of the Republic. The Wisconsin senator gets up and says out loud what half of the country is thinking and talks about every day. This President broke the law and lied about it; he trashed the Constitution and hides himself in the flag. Feingold asks: Shouldn't the Senate say something about this, at least express our disapproval? He introduces a resolution of censure and calls for debate.

Well, that tore it in the august chamber of lawmakers. Democrats scurried away like scared rats. And Republicans chortled at the thought. You want to censure our warrior President, the guy who defends us every day against terrorist attacks? Let's have a vote right now, the Republican leader demanded. Yuk, yuk. '

1. I fear for our country
If Russ Feingold is an embarassment to the Senate, then the Senate is an embarassment to all thinking Americans.

The Wisconsin senator gets up and says out loud what half of the country is thinking and talks about every day. This President broke the law and lied about it; he trashed the Constitution and hides himself in the flag. Feingold asks: Shouldn't the Senate say something about this, at least express our disapproval?

One could argue that Censure is the wrong move in the sense that Impeachment really is the course that should be considered, but if bringing the truth into the light of day embarasses the Senate, then we're in worse shape than I had ever imagined.

2. The Senate IS an embarrasment to thinking Americans.
If you need a good cringe, reflect on the hearings where Torquemada couldn't even be put under oath. Where he sat there and taunted the Senate with their impotence and argued his president was above the law of the United States.

3. We need someone to carry a populist message.
Why don't the Dems get this? Someone who is the voice of the citizen. Feingold was willing to do this for the people. The rest weren't.

4. We have a man with balls......Whoopee! Things are looking bright..
Now the trick is to get our money lords and our big time talking jaspers out in broad daylight to back Senator Feingold.

8. Oh sure, everyone else in the Senate is wrong and weak, and
Feingold is right and strong. Sorry, this piece misses the point. I would bet most Senators don't disagree with Feingold on the wiretapping issue, it is his timing, and method of action they take issue with. Senator Feingold is no hero, leader or tough guy in my opinion, he may have cost us a lot more than we could possible manage to gain from a weak "shame on you" directed at the President.
