Denzel-Jodie Heist Movie or Not, Lee Still Has His Conscience: Auteur Views Katrina Conspiracy Through Glasses, Very Darkly; As for Condoleezza: ‘I Don’t Think We Can Vote for Her’

By Sara Vilkomerson

http://www.observer.com/20060320/20060320_sara_vilkomerson_pageone_coverstory1.asp

At 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, Spike Lee sat behind a desk piled high with the daily papers in a Regency Hotel suite, dressed in a black blazer embossed with a white Yankees emblem, black pants and round thick-rimmed tortoiseshell glasses. He was there to talk about his new thriller, the Clive Owen–Denzel Washington bank-heist flick Inside Man. Instead, he was talking about When the Levees Broke, his forthcoming documentary about Hurricane Katrina, and Condoleezza Rice. He was cracking up, giggling and cackling—in fact, caggling.

Mr. Lee recalled the story of a shopper who approached Ms. Rice at the pricey Ferragamo shoe store on Fifth Avenue during Katrina and reportedly shouted “How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!” before Secret Service physically removed her.

Mr. Lee picked up The Observer’s tape recorder and held it close in front of his face. “To the lady that got in Ms. Rice’s face in the store before you got pulled off by Secret Service,” he said. “If you read this article, please contact The New York Observer because we’re trying to find you for the documentary we’re doing on Hurricane Katrina.” Caggle, caggle. “IF you are still alive, that is.

“Also, to the person that said ‘Go fuck yourself, Mr. Cheney.’ If you are still alive, we’d like to contact you too. If you are still on our planet”—caggle—“if you are still walking amongst us, if you get this down in Guantánamo with the other jailed peace activists and suspected Al Qaeda agents who have been jailed for five years and not charged with anything, please get a message to me! We want to know what prompted you to tell Mr. Cheney to go fuck himself! Thank you.” He paused to catch his breath. “Seriously, we’d like to find that woman.”

4. He got tombstoned. He was Dr. No or Dr. 0 or Dr. O or something like that
He wasn't a freeper, he just wasn't a go along to get along kind of DU guy (no surprise there) and he violated some DU rule.

17. No. You just have to follow the DU rules.
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 01:58 PM by CottonBear
My point was that the good doctor is an independent sort of guy who doesn't necessarily like to play by anyone's rules as evidenced by his yelling "fuck you" to Cheney. ;) We were gald he posted to DU! He got to personally tell Cheney "fuck you!" Most of us will never have that chance!

edit: The doctor had problems with E-Bay as well (see the links in this thread).
Welcome to DU! :hi:

10. I thought it was "Dr. O" or something like that.
But I couldn't find him just now when I did a couple of searches. He also has a MySpace site and he's in a band.

Spike might need to register.

Here's another site he was building. He's a pretty neat guy; plays in a band, wife just had a baby right before KAtrina hit, IIRC.

To: George W. Bush
Dear Mr. George W. Bush
Ask not what your country can do for you, ask instead, what you can do for your country. Well in case you don't 'get it' here is a hint Mr. Bush. The single best thing you can ever hope to do for this country is to keep your word with respect to the CIA leak and PLEASE FIRE KARL ROVE ASAP and then immediately RESIGN from the US presidency as you very clearly are not qualified to hold the job and have disgraced it's stature immensely. And so we the people are signing this petition so that you will know how the REAL people feel.

18. He needs to find Jabar, too.
Jabar Gibson - Let's Roll

HOUSTON -- Across the street from the Astrodome, in the alcove of a motel where the night manager sits behind bulletproof glass, a young man leaned against a faded stucco wall.

A grin crept beneath his wispy mustache when a stranger approached.

"Do you know who I am?" he asked.

His name is Jabar Gibson.

The first bus to arrive in Houston loaded with Hurricane Katrina evacuees from New Orleans was not operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency or any other government authority. It was an Orleans Parish school bus, its driver too young to drink but already a convicted car thief. His cargo: 60 of New Orleans' poorest residents, the youngest a week-old infant and the oldest 59.

It was known as the "renegade bus." Gibson, 20, was its renegade driver.
