Bush: "Were you the only black man in Salt Lake City?"
No, sir, are you the only idiot in the White House? President Bush, not known for his cultural sensitivity or his off-the-cuff eloquence, may have hit a new low last week. According to Time magazine, Bush was again touring Katrina-ravaged New Orleans when he encountered a man who had been evacuated to Utah. Trying to make small talk, Bush asked him, "Were you the only black man in Salt Lake City?"

10. I heard that he said it as a joke
but even so, what a ridiculous thing for the President of the United States to say to someone who's been displaced by a hurricane and suffered so much loss.

12. Actually, in the early 70's
that was probably true. I remember my roommate in Navy School in San Diego smoking dope in our room in 73. He couldn't figure out why I was pissed but I doubt anything would have come of it if he were caught.

14. Back then, you really had to screw up to get pitched.
I year earlier than that, I was staggering under the weight of that simian on my back and no one ever even brought it up.

Of course, I was in The Bad Place and they needed all of us they could keep.
