Perhaps his Dittohead friend is a nice guy, and really means well in the world.

But at this point, I think Al is too easy on this sap. I'm sorry, this guy is completely lost, ignorant, and a blue print for what is wrong with this country.

I'd love to see Malloy take Luther apart.

This guy is PATHETIC.

1. I think Franken believes Luther's words speak for themselves.
That's my reasoning, anyway.

Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 02:01 AM by liberaltrucker
but won't, due to loyalty to a friend. Sound familiar??? On edit, maybe AAR should dump Al. W/O Catherine, the show's fucking boring.

3. I agree.
Al has really declined rapidly over the past few months, and he really is completely out of touch when compared to Randi, Malloy, and Thom Hartman.

I think Al is a decent guy, but he is not on the same page with the reality we are living in.

He is in deep denial about many things.

4. Can you give some broad examples. I don't get Air America, so I haven't
heard from Al Franken in a while. Is Franken really slipping? His books were scathing. What is going on?

17. He has no idea of how to conduct an interview... and he isn't funny
his book might be funny, his scripted stuff isn't bad as far as funny ha ha goes - but as a radio host, he's not exactly with it, really at all.

he focuses on dumber side of stuff - even when a nugget has just been handed to him on a silver platter by a guest he cuts them off and goes off on some stupid tangent that he thinks is a funny quip, but it isn't.

if i din't know better, i'd say was deliberately playing the role of disinformation propagandist against our own side... just cuz he blows the important stuff and is endlessly reduntant about old news (or tid bits that is so freaking worn out). I think I listened to him for about five minutes if that this week for the first time in probably two or three months and i had to turn it to npr, which also drives me crazy for different reasons.

18. You are so RIGHT ON!
"even when a nugget has just been handed to him on a silver platter by a guest he cuts them off and goes off on some stupid tangent that he thinks is a funny quip, but it isn't. Drives me crazy!

I heard him talk yesterday about how he thought calling for the impeachment of * was counterproductive. * took an oath to defend the Constitution, violated that oath, bragged about it, said he'd do it again, and WE THE PEOPLE aren't supposed to call him on it and defend the Constitution ourselves, even it means against our own government because its COUNTERPRODUCTIVE????

F**k Al Franken! (And I gotta agree with you about NPR, too!)

6. I just think he's playing it safe for when he runs for the Senate...
though of course there's hours of his rants they can dig up so what the point of this would be I have no idea.

11. Exactly.
I mean, do we really want to hear from the mayor of Minneapolis?

No, but its the kind of political ally Al will need in the future.

12. Exactly.... his words can come back to bite him....
thus, he will always moderate and refuse to be engaged in the more controversial (e.g., election theft)

I understand this, but I also find it annoying sometimes.

7. Have to disagree.
I think he does this segment as a vehicle to respond to Limbaugh lies. I like the segment because it gives us a model for how to disagree without foaming at the mouth, as all the wingers over here do.

Due to my schedule, I get to hear some of Randi's show every day and later, some of Franken. I like both. Franken's style is less intense but they are both great.

My .02.

By the way, Cindy Sheehan spoke here last night and she was awesome. Strange that our main daily (a Gannett clone) didn't cover her at all. Shitheads.

8. And I respect your opinion :)
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 03:04 AM by TheWatcher
I really do. I can understand why you feel that way, and I suppose I am just a little more intense. I personally feel the hour is too late for compromise, or an approach like Al's and I think that is why I prefer Mike and Randy.

At the same time, I think Thom Hartman is BRILLIANT, and he balances things out for me emotionally. In the end, we are all in this TOGETHER, even if we disagree on how we approach things.

And your Post is worth A LOT mmore than .02. It is very reasonable, and I think we need that balance of opinions and viewpoints to keep us balanced and thinking.

As for Cindy, GREAT to hear that. I am so happy she is still in the fight.

9. his show annoys the shit out of me.
the tinny, canned laughter, the whole nostaglic radio interviewness of at all.. I think its trite and screws its credibility when you have "APPLAUD!" noises in the background.

14. Luther annoys me because he really doesn't defend his hero, all he says is
that Oxyboy has a different "take" on it or has merely another viewpoint. It's like it's the same as having a preference for drinking coffee black or with cream and sugar.

I do like the AAR hosts (all of them, not just Frankin) pointing out the lies in the RW talking points, and as a vehicle for that, it's fine. Sometimes I get the feeling that the only reason Luther still comes on is to plug his music camp. He doesn't bring much to the table to defend his hero.

15. Because I truly believe he KNOWS he can't
He KNOWS Rush is a liar.

He KNOWS Al is right, and he KNOWS what is going on in this country is WRONG.

I think Luther is Pathetic, but he isn't an idiot.

He KNOWS. You can hear it in his voice. You can hear the tension and the conflict, and the desperation to stay on message and cling to his pathetic beliefs and perceptions.

But like so many that simply refuse to acknowledge what they know to be true, he would rather die for the lie than have to admit he was wrong.

Mark Luther=Good German.

Willfully ignorant, and not enough of a person to admit he was wrong.

I have a message for Mark Luther:

You may be a nice person, and perhaps there is good in you, but if you are willing to sell your country out to murderous fascists, and turn a blind eye, desperately trying to ignore all around you while everything that this country stood for, built on the blood, sweat, tears, and work of those who fought, lived, loved, and died to keep her as her forefathers intended, and watch the citizens of this country be used and slaughtered physically, mentally, financially, and spiritually, just so you can remain in your deluded fantasy world, then YOU, my friend, like it or not, are a COMPLICIT, ENABLING, ACCESSORY and WILLFUL AID to the Criminals who are destroying things, and you are every bit as much of a threat to the survival of this Nation as they are.

YOU ARE THE ENEMY.

People like him are lost, and they are not coming back.
