6. That's all and good but I am still upset with O'Connor
She wanted Bush in so damn bad, it's her fault he's verging on dictatorship. She voted for dictator Bush instead of Al Gore. Live with it!

18. I'm inclined to agree. One of the worst judicial decisions...
ranks up there with Dred Scott. You reap what you sow. She knew better.

16. An NPR interview.

Here: http://rawstory.com/news/2006/Retired_Supreme_Court_Jus...

"OConnor said we must be ever-vigilant against those who would strongarm the judiciary into adopting their preferred policies." It takes a lot of degeneration before a country falls into dictatorship," she said, "but we should avoid these ends by avoiding these beginnings.""

My sig line means: "Resist the beginning." O'Connor says the same thing -- but I wish she had resisted a little harder in December of 2000.

17. Voting For Bush + Retiring While He's President > A Speech
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 08:31 PM by aden_nak
Too little too late, Justice O'Connor. Like him or not, Rehnquist figured Bush out and held on to the bitter frig-all end.

19. I agree.
A majority vote in Bush v. Gore and allowing the little shit to appoint her replacement? No sympathy from me.

20. Now she can speak out against him.
As a SCOTUS member she couldn't. I don't care about (actually I do but it is past tense to look at) the presidency decision. Right now, she can be an effective voice against his agenda and can reach people that DU never will.

BTW, a thread exists on this subject.

22. Before the election she wanted Bush as president
and she made her opinion known - she would only step down when there was a Republican in the WH to replace her on the bench. She sold out America of her own free will.

At an Election Night party at the Washington, D.C., home of Mary Ann Stoessel, widow of former Ambassador Walter Stoessel, the justice's husband, John O'Connor, mentioned to others her desire to step down, according to three witnesses. But Mr. O'Connor said his wife would be reluctant to retire if a Democrat were in the White House and would choose her replacement. Justice O'Connor declined to comment.3

In a story published the following day, Christopher Hitchens, the United States correspondent for the Evening Standard of London, wrote that "O'Connor . . . has allegedly told her friends and family that she wishes to retire from the Court but won't do so if there is to be a Democratic president to nominate her replacement."4 Helen Thomas, a nationally syndicated columnist, wrote that "he story going around is that a very upset Justice Sandra Day O'Connor walked out of a dinner party on election night when she heard the first mistaken broadcast that Vice President A Gore had won. The ailing O'Connor apparently wants to retire, but not while a Democrat is in the White House and could pick her successor."5 Various parts of this story were repeated in a number of publications.6

She wasn't threatened. She threatened America by her partisanship and now she, along with every human being on earth, is having to live the decision she made.

My bottom line: Fuck her and the horse she rode in on until she publicly renounces her decision. But even then, it is too late.
